RSVP-people who havent responded?

I sent out invitations for my baby shower two weeks ago and I have had two people call me, the others told me through other people or when I asked them about it. There is still 5 more days before the rsvp deadline, but my question is-WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR PEOPLE TO REPLY THE WAY AN RSVP CARD SAYS??? My mother in law and I are the ones listed on the card but i have had people rsvp through my grandma and my mom. its so frustrating, i have so much other stuff going on, why do people think i have the time to hunt them down for an rsvp??

When should i start calling people that havent replied yet? Should i wait until the deadline has passed or should i start calling them this week? the shower is in three weeks and i need to know how many people are going to be there so we can plan out a menu. thanks so much

RSVP-people who havent responded?
Wait until after the deadline. Sometimes people wait because they are checking the schedules...may have other things pending and they cannot give you an answer yet. So wait until the deadline, then call. You will find that as the deadline gets closer, more people will respond so there will be no need to call...they like to wait till the last minute. There are a few people who will not do as the instructions ask and yes they are very rude. As for the people who have responded thru someone else, I would call them also and just say "My grandmother told me you were coming, but I just wanted to verify in case she mis understood...you are coming right?" I would plan for at least 75% of the people you invited to show up...that is a good starting point. You can adjust the amount from there.

Good Luck!!!
Reply:You sent out invitations for *your* shower? Sorry but that is not good form ... someone else should be doing ALL of the shower stuff for you- including following up on RSVPs. Yes, people are rude about replying - or rather *not* replying when requested but many young people simply are not taught what RSVP means. In the meantime, ask your MIL to take over. She should call on or just after the date that people were requested to RSVP. Make your menu simple enough that it can serve few or many - it's not worth stressing over. People get tired of being asked to buy presents - which is all a shower is after all ... an invitation to buy you a present should be made by someone other than yourself.
Reply:I agree with froggie. People are not very good with RSVPs. I would wait until the day after the deadline and then start making your calls. Also, keep in mind that some people may not really know if they will be able to attend until the last minute. Always plan for more than have sent in their RSVP to be safe.
Reply:If you want to make sure everything goes as planned, you need to call them. That's what's throwing a party entails, like it or not.
Reply:People are impolite when it comes to these things and sometimes ignorant. A lot of people think that RSVP means "call me if you canNOT attend", even though it really means "please reply (whether or not you are coming)". Call them the day after the deadline to find out if they are coming or not. Doing it before the deadline makes no sense...that's the reason you have a deadline.

Pretty People and Society?

I think that pretty people in our society have it better than those of us who are not physically attractive. Tyra Banks did a show where she dressed up as a fat woman but no one knew she was Tyra (the famous model/talk show host).

People in society mistreated Tyra as she lived THE FAT LIFE for one day. It was a terrible experience. I am not downgrading fat people. This post is simply about knowing that pretty people have it easier than most people who are not pretty.

Recall the phrase "Blondes Have More Fun"? Well, I think pretty people have more fun in our society. The same applies in the work force. Pretty people (stupid or smart) get the job while the ugly folks are told to TALK TO THE HAND.

Your view? Your experience?

Pretty People and Society?
I think that you are right about the pretty people having more of an advantage in life than the people that aren't pretty. But, I will tell you where it gets worse for someone who has had it made because of their beauty. When they start to get older people don't treat them like they used to. Then they have to adjust to a lifestyle that they are not used to. I am not saying that one is better than the other, I am just stating that at some point all of that "preferred treatment" goes away. It can be difficult for some.
Reply:Maybe. There are definitely some advantages but then I guess it depends on what you want out of life. I'd say they also have a lot of people envy them and try to screw up their life because they are jealous. And people can also be mean to you because of jealousy. I've seen really pretty people post pictures on forums and they get insulted. Even on a little minor thing.

So, I guess I'm trying to say is that don't have it better but they don't have it worse.
Reply:i can't agree more. its true and no matter how much someone denies it, good looking people tend to have it better off in society. but the downside is that there can be bad sides. like very good looking women can be always harrassed by men and whistled at etc.

and also, if there were 2 women, and both the exact same (personality wise) but one was pretty and the other was normal, then the pretty one will obviously get the guys approaching her and more "looks". same goes for men. just the way life is.

i notice it myself if i dont shave for a week, let my hair grow and dress with raggy clothes, then people tend to be abit more rude to me.
Reply:I think thi is the most fun part. Suppose I am not pretty ok. So when I will walk down the road people will say many things or will not pay attention to me. But this is where I get more strong and stronger. I get used to what people say to me and slowly I start not to care about what they say because I know who I am. In this society or any people will obviously pay attention to a curvy girl then a fat girl but it doesn't matter. What matters is that u......how u talk to people and how u do something exclusively. to tell u the truth I am not pretty like my cousin. When I go out with my cousin I see all people looking at her...so then I thought maybe God didn't gave me the gift to be pretty. SO I started to look for my gift and I found it. I can do good henna and when there is any occassion everyone wants me to do henna on their hand. Also I started to build up my weakness. I was scared of talking to people but now I give speech at our church. Yeah i am only in high school. But as u walk through the road u r first priority is to find u r strenght and trust me once u start to get it u will auto matically start to feel good about ur self. Also what u think about u r self people will think too. If u say oh i am not pretty then people will also look at u like that. I used to say that but I stopped and gain more confidence. Don't show people that u r not comfortable then peopl will take the chance to let u down.

Be u r self and think that u r pretty...take some time out and take care of u r self. Have fun with life because u never know when the end is. Do u??? So cheers to life with full of fun.
Reply:Daa! The perception of pretty is actually very different in each culture. Mostly its based on even features, not weight.

When Tyra puts on a fat suit and an oversized dress hanging to the ankles, she has no sexpappeal compared to wearing a miniskirt an inch undernath the a... and nipples poking through a see through blouse. Has nothing to do with weight.

If you want to get the job, you dress smart, you look smart, you learn what you need to know (be smart).

The reason stupid people get some jobs they don't deserve comes from racism and favoritism. And a lot of bosses can't deal with a smarter person underneath them.
Reply:I think you are right...up to a point. An attractive person will have an easier time getting in the door or getting a shot. However, if you think that in the highest places in the worlds of business, entertainment, politics or whatever, a pretty face is going to save you, forget it.

Have you ever noticed that good looking girls usually hang out together with other good looking girls, but when it come to couples the lousiest looking guy dates a Pretty girl and mostly vice versa too.

Beauty in eyes of beholder, study confirms:

WASHINGTON: When it comes to something pleasant, it seems that the phrase "easy on the eyes" may hold more truth than earlier believed, for a study has found that objects or people appear more attractive when the mind can process their looks faster.

Scientists ponder beauty and the eye of the beholder:

Evidence increasingly suggests the human brain is hard-wired for aesthetics.

Reply:People who aren't as good-looking, do get jealous of people who do look more good-looking.
Reply:I think you're dead on, a few years ago, dateline ran a story where they had two females interview for the same job, one who was very normal looking and completely qualified for the position. and the other who was attractive and knew little or nothing about the job. guess who got the job? the pretty girl!! I can see why women are catty towards attractive girls, they get what they want without having to work for it.
Reply:not necessaerily beacuse most of dumb are just dumb..pretty is where it stops for them??

p.s can u help me by answering one of my questions?
Reply:This translates into criminal justice too. Attractive people are less likely to serve jail time then the less attractive. Remember the school teacher who had sex with her under aged past student? Her lawyer argued that she was "too pretty" to serve time in jail and she ended up serving her time at home.
Reply:i do agree with this, because humans tend to judge on an appearance basis quite often, especially in american society where feel-good culture is embraced and aesthetics are prime. here, it's all about looking good in order to feel good.
Reply:Being rather average looking, I do notice a definite difference in how people treat me when I'm dressed up. When my hair is done, make up and nice clothes, people go out of their way to smile at me. When I'm a mess, people don't notice me. I think how you present yourself has a lot to do with it. Dressing up is a signal that you expect people to give you respect.

Yes, however, gorgeous people like Tyra Banks will be treated differently. When I was young, I was good looking, but most females hated me and most males wanted to use me. I didn't have real friends until I lost my looks. So that sword cuts both ways.

Remember, you don't have to be georgeous to look great. But your unique style and manner of dress ques people on how to thing about you.

Have some fun, try dressing up as different 'characters' and go in public and see the reaction. Try being a hippy, a business woman, a prissy housewife, a biker chick etc. It's really great for a laugh and you will learn something.
Reply:that is only your perception. They have esteem problems just as everyone else. They don't see what you see,and never can know if people want them for who they are,or what they look "pretty people"have low self esteem
Reply:I think everyone who has been alive and gone through puberty knows that that is true. I think it is biological not necessarily sociological. I think, as humans, we are naturally attracted and somewhat more trusting of those who are "pretty". Because face it, a person's/animal's physical characteristics/beauty is a survival and reproduction tool. I guess it really just goes to show how little we have truly evolved.

And face it, no matter how much we tell our kids and preach to them not to judge people on their appearance it will not matter. Nurturing them will never beat out biology. As humans, our brains are wired that way. We just have to keep it in check as much as possible.
Reply:Once in a pageant i was asked this..(weither i felt attractive people were treated better and become more sucessful) ...and to me i partically agree...but i think a lot is attitude...as a psych. major i have learned you have to make people like you ( in a sense minipulate them) into seeing how great you are ugly or not. In my experience i have met some unattractive people that became beautiful because they were just so positive it was infectious....and i have met some BEAUTIFUL people who became so ugly because they were just not nice at all. Does this mean we should stop caring about ourself because our personality is the only thing that will matter in the end...no I think there can be an even balance. In the end, on the job a boss and coworkers are going to see the attitude of the person they work for...initially geting your foot in the door looks matter....but in the end it all comes out. And if a bad attitude is not recognized because that person is attractive then that is not a good enviornment for you to be in. So I guess what i am trying to say is...people have good and evil...Almost anyone is quick to judge at first...but the judgemental attitude will subside when they get to know the true personality of the person...finding them attractive or not.
Reply:Pretty girls get raped more often. True story.
Reply:Blondes and pretty people may have more fun, but they also have more STD's.
Reply:im "pretty" or at least strange people tell me this randomly.

but i think its about personality, because i know a lot of unattractive people who seem to have a lot more fun then i do.

Why do people get so fired up when someone talks about helping people from other countries?

So many people snap that there are plenty of people and kids here in the U.S. that need help. We know that, but there are so many MORE kids and people who need help all over the world! We are the richest country in the world by far, so why is it such a big deal that some of us want to go overseas and help the people who have absolutely nothing? I know that there are people in the U.S. who have nothing, but they are far more likely to get help simply being here than people in Africa if caring people don't go there. It doesn't need to be an argument. Can't we just care about everyone? God calls us to go to every nation.

Why do people get so fired up when someone talks about helping people from other countries?
I believe that part of it comes from the quote thea."Charity starts at home." After that there is the giggle factor of America's attempt to save the world when it cannot even take care of it's own needy. So many complaints about poverty and failing education in the US and charitible dollars, foreign aid, and UN funds are streaming out to the world. How about Oprah's $40 million school for 150 students in South Africa, which was supposed to miraculously transform into a paradise after the evil white devils were removed from power. There are quite a few schools or districts that could use $40 million. I guess the American people that put her in the wealth aren't good enough for her help.
Reply:We try and do help every nation in need by answering God's call. How do we ask God to please have them stop kicking us in the rear, spiting in our face, and their leaders stealing our generosity while they are accepting our aid or screaming they are not receiving enough.

How many people here do drugs?

ok i am just curious about how many people here do drugs or tried them, because honestly im tired of those few people who think all drugs are bad without even knowing the effects that they have. and i think the only reason theyre illegal is because people where frighted, for instants the white people thought that the asian people where gonna steal there women away so they made opium illegal and marijuana became illigal because people were protesting about the war in vietnam so the politicians said it was it was leading towards people being agianst the war so then made tighter restrictions. so back to my question how many people here do drugs or tried them. also you can overdose on perscription drugs so i feel that doesnt make them better than illegal drugs

How many people here do drugs?
I've done 'em all. Anything is okay in moderation. Anything in excess is dangerous.
Reply:I am not one to judge, but anyone who do drugs are slow. It will trick you in beleving that it is ok ay to do them. You will have lost brain cells. Don't do drugs kids, stay in school!!!! Report It

Reply:I haven't, but I still believe it is up to the individual to decide if they like to try drugs or not... as long as they are over 16 years of age, that is!
Reply:I did not inhale
Reply:Basically your question is pointless. Who cares about the druggies? Your only hurting your body in the long run. Prescription drugs, true, can be abused. Doctors are trained to know the signs though. I don't force my opinion about drugs on other people, just thought you could post a more meaningful question.
Reply:I just smoked one. Pot is not a bad drug, it's no worse than alcohol. I live a very productive life, I'm active in my kids school, I work as a tractor trailer driver, attend college at night for computers, take care of a house, manage a budget, drive REALLY nice cars, been married for 6 years. I'm no different from you, I just enjoy all that God gave me.
Reply:The only drugs I take these days are caffeine and nicotine. I've tried a few others in the past, but I found that they didn't really do anything for me. Never saw the point in continuing with them.

The people & the peoples?

1) The people in this country

2) Peoples of this country.

People %26amp; Peoples - both are nouns, plural..

What is the difference in the meaning in between

the words "people" and " peoples"

Regds

tmuthiah@yahoo.com

The people %26amp; the peoples?
The old Soviet Union was made up of people of different religions, different colour, and different languages.

It might be appropriate to say 'The peoples of the ...'

A small county like Latvia would have just one language, probably one religion, and the people would be the same race. You might say 'The people of Latvia...'
Reply:People means everyone all lumped in together.

Peoples mean the individual groups of people.

"The people of Europe" = all Europeans as a group

"The peoples of Europe" = individually as Spaniards, Italians, Belgians, French, Germans, etc.
Reply:The difference between people and peoples is that

"people" means humans considered as a group or in indefinite numbers (e.g.: p[eople were dancing in the street. I met all sorts of people), whereas "peoples" means a body of persons sharing a common religion, culture, language, or inherited condition of life. See my source for more info.

I hope this helps.
Reply:It's appropriate to use The People of this country instead of Peoples of this country.

-The word "People" is already plural, so you don't have to add an "S". Just like the word Children, its not appropriate to use childrens, right?

Hope that helps

How man black people in American do you think know that it was their OWN PEOPLE who sold them into slavery?

I will say - my personal opinion is slavery was horrible. It was a crime against humanity but to understand it better, one must READ and look at what was going on at the time. How many black people do you think even know it was their OWN tribes, their own people who tortured, beat, and kidnapped them to bring them to slave traders? And even BEFORE the Europeans even landed in Africa so don't go blaming the Europeans for drumming up the business. The African slave trade was in full force amongst its own tribes and people well before the Europeans ever got to Africa. So, my question is - why don't black people in America ever get pissed about that? I'm only talking about those black people who constantly think of themselves as victims to white oppression because of slavery. They were oppressed originally because of their own people! It was wrong for Europeans to look at people as property but that's how it was back then. You can't continue to blame all white people for this.

How man black people in American do you think know that it was their OWN PEOPLE who sold them into slavery?
You're right of course. The truth of the matter is that more whites have an accurate account of slavery and its factual history than blacks. So many blacks are ready to jump on the race band wagon and cry and accuse whites for this and that. Truth be told, most blacks can't even name 6 African countries. In a recent survey 3 out of 10 hishschool blacks think African is a country rather than a continent. It amazes me how people on here talk about things like they are educating others and meanwhile they dont know WTF they are talking about.

*seetheworld*, you really should read some history books yourself before you start making accusations and attempt to correct others. Africans have been beating, torturing and enslaving fellow Africans for years upon years. Africa is one of the most hostile places in the world where civil war and radical militia groups flourish.
Reply:What you say here is true, and to boot, the tribal leadeers only sold off the ones that were too lazy to contribute to the well being of the individual tribes, or criminals, and we ended up with them.

One other thought, if not for the free ride to America, just how many now here would still be in Africa, running like hell to stay off the food chain from man eating animals?
Reply:what african tribes had between eachother cant COMPARE between what the europeans did to african american.. all countries have there little slave traders.. wars.. etc.. but nothing compares to the amount of segregation and crap we had to put up with from europeians.. we came a far way from that and i think u need to educate yourself on what REALLY happend cause.. seems to me u just red half a page about what went on! .. and to be honest it isnt wrong for a black person to blame white people because it is there fault.. we had to go through years of talk and.. pain.. and loss.. to get to where we are today.. simple as that.. nothing justifies it as right!
Reply:Good question- it was other Africans and the Arabs who sold them into slavery...
Reply:Ok, what you're saying is right - but the difference is that we exploited what was going on *within* their culture for our own evil purposes. So whatever was happening between different tribes was exploited by us and it got shockingly out of hand - and saying "oh it's your own fault" like you are doing is really disgusting
Reply:but slavery was legal then. it is still legal in some countries.....

take Cuba or Burmudia for example........
Reply:I'm sure they all know it, they just won't admit it.
Reply:Again, this is a valid question based on proven facts.

But, people are too angry to try to understand your viewpoint and honestly answer your question.

EDIT: seetheworld, I guess Rwanda is really just a misunderstood paradise then!
Reply:Good Lord child..........get over this crap already. It's in the past. As long as I'm alive, it won't ever happen around me.
Reply:Would one hate their mother for doing terrible things to them? Probably not forever. Would one hate a stranger for doing the same to them? Yes! You would hate his/her guts until death. It's all about your blood line :)
Reply:Even if their own people sold them into slavery, that gave no right for white people to purchase them and use them as their slaves for hundreds of years.

And these people only did it for money. They wouldn't have done it if the white men didn't have a demand for them in the first place.

And a hundred or so years after slavery began, most slaves were born and sold in this country, not overseas. By 'white' people, not there own people.

You can't say they were "originally oppressed by their own people". You don't know that. Even if they were, it doesn't matter! Why would they care? It can't even compare to the hundreds of years they were oppressed by the 'white men'.

And it isn't the same thing. The African people who DID sell there own people into slavery did because of money(not that it makes it right) It not the same as the white people, who saw black people as being inhuman and even as animals, and thought slavery was their right of passage. Which is completely inexcusable!

And finally. What does this matter? Slavery have been done an over with. Therefore, you can't hold anyone accountable from the past! What is the necessity of bringing it up????

♥Tasha
Reply:Of course slavery is a object of a uncivilized people. Primitive tribes and societies like that almost always have slaves. What was wrong is the civilized and educated Europeans for propagating such a travesty such as slavery.
Reply:very good point i've thought of that before.
Reply:about a 1000! but it could be more then that
Reply:Sure, but its the treatment that was different. Europeans/Americans treated their slaves wayyy worse.
Reply:I think you got your answer from Seethew that they do not know . Blacks don't study history back that far. They also do not realize that Lincoln did not intend for them to remain here. It was his intention to return them to their homeland.

Blacks were not the only slaves. Many people came to America to escape slavery.
Reply:"You can't continue to blame all white people for this" .. and then he turns around blames all Africans saying "... it was their OWN tribes, their own people who tortured, beat, and kidnapped them to bring them to slave traders?... The African slave trade was in full force amongst its own tribes and people well before the (he's talking now about an entire continent)". It's amazing!

"imrather.." we will always be glad about people like you. There's hope in this world. Thaks you all who came to our rescue when the finger pointers began their game. It's exactly the sam thing that they have done to Africans, blaming us for all our problems when we know that people have supplied arms and ammunition and been involved in several conflicts down there. It is a sick game. So sick.
Reply:Thank you for finally shedding light on this. So many people whites included think it was all the whites who were involved in slave trading. I hope everyone reads your question and thinks hard about it and puts the blame where it belongs.
Reply:I doubt they come into contact with a lot of African tribesman in their local cities. The people who perpetuated the slave trade were not from Africa. And I think it's more about the discrimination they faced for such a long time during and after slavery. Not that I support putting the blame on white people for something their ancestors did a long time ago, but I certainly wouldn't put the blame on Africans either. I really wouldn't put blame on anyone. That part of history is over, there are still negative effects but as soon as we get over ourselves and stop talking and thinking and constantly worrying about the race issue it will go away.
Reply:i guess alot of people didnt now...and people did that only for money??? like how could
Reply:There was a special on the slave trade on the History Channel. They said white people rarely went into the African interior and slaves were usually captured by waring tribes.
Reply:Tortured, Beat, and Kidnapped?!!!

Reply:NOT ALL OF THEM WANTED IT. AND THEY DIDN'T EXPECT ALL THE OUTCOMES. THEY SOLD THEM SELF BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT THEY'D BE MAKING MONEY AND HAVING SOMETHING TO DO. WHAT ABOUT THIS QUESTION: DID YOU KNOW THAT AFRICA HAS BEEN PRACTICALLY RUINED BECAUSE WITH ALL THE SLAVERY AND RACISM TOWARDS THEM, THEY COULDN'T CREATE A GOVERNMENT AND AN ADVANCED SOCIETY?!

please... answer THAT.

(sorry to other answerers for all caps!)
Reply:I agree with you that people who really understand the totality of slavery should know that there were some Africans who contributed to the slave trade. There were also a lot of other races that were involved. However, when you start to get on the subject of why some blacks are upset about the idea of slavery and wondering why they think as themselves as victims you have to understand something. Although it was some Africans that took part in the slave trade it was white opression during slavery that caused most of the pain and suffering. Also, it was the injustice and mistreatment of the black race after slavery that adds to peoples feeling of being a victim. And when you talk about black people being mad at Europeans for drumming up the idea you overlook the fact that the Europeans did not do anything to stop the trade and they were a major driving force in the trade. Nobody is blaming all white people for slavery. However, we should not be obligated to act like it never happened, or be forced to ignore the consequences of the slave trade that have led to some of the mentality and mistreatment that we still deal with today. Its good to know that we agree on the idea that slavery was horrible.
Reply:I totally agree with you and if there was more reading you would see that the africans were asked if they wanted to go back to africa and they said no!!! so If africans want to think they are victims to "white oppression" Its your ancestors fault they shoulda gone back or Maybe you should live somewhere other than america If you dont like it so much.

People kill in the name of God/Allah...etc?

Here is what I don't understand. How is it that people can use religion to KILL other people. This has happened throughout history, like the Crusades, modern Ireland, and the present Middle East.

It is hard for me to believe that ANY higher power (whatever name one would like to put upon that power) would be okay with people being killed in their name. How do one justify that in their head?

How is it that people say they believe in free will, but then look down upon people who believe differently than them...to the point of murdering them in the process? How do people kill in the name of God or Allah and think that would be condoned by the higher power?

People kill in the name of God/Allah...etc?
doesn't make any sense does it?

harm none.

i knew that you weren't just talking about islam. how could you be when so many have died for the sake of spreading christianity?
Reply:Don't confuse what some people do, using the name of God, with what God would actually has us do.
Reply:Yeah thats the problem with religion.
Reply:Because human beings are selfish idiots. The kill in the name of God, but in reality they are killing for more power and control of the world.
Reply:They believe they are Allah's hit man, or mercenaries hence they are following Allah's command. And its there all in the book that they follow. So you cannot help it. It will continue. Belief molds behavior!
Reply:Hey, if you want to justify murder to yourself and your followers, wouldn't it be better to do it in the name of God than in the name of Juan Turnipseed? People will flock to God, but poor Juan is just juan in a million.
Reply:You get a star for this one.

The answer is complicated, and would require a book...

But, for the most part, you hit it pretty close...

They justify it "in their head"...
Reply:theyre using their own hatred these days
Reply:They become misguided and think they must kill people who are of different religions. They use God to justify their evil actions. If they think that God will be pleased with their actions then they are incredibly wrong coz killing and suicide are both MAJOR sins in Islam.
Reply:It is simple. They are brainwashed into believing they are serving God's purpose by destroying evil. Never mind the fact that the "evil" they are destroying is usually completely innocent people! To these kinds of people, the end justifies the means and they see their end as a good one, so therefore they can justify absolutely anything.
Reply:this is why religion is man made, God would never tell any human to kill anything, God is pure love and giving God is not destructive
Reply:People will find an excuse to kill each other no matter what it is. Making up stories of everlasting life for a warrior goes back through countless religions and thousands of years. How else will you get a man or woman to die for you?
Reply:they use religion as excuse
Reply:yeah muslims...i dont understand it either

Should People Who Insult Old People be killed or arrested?

If people were more polite to eachother and made less ruse ccomments which made people angry would this reduce crime. Should being rude to people be a crme and people arreted and jailed for one day for it. What about getting mad and killing them if they do would it be understood or would people continue to think being ruse is not their fault shoot the angry people and say ''HE/sHE went insane.''

Should People Who Insult Old People be killed or arrested?
I have views on this subject. On a serious note, it's sad when the younger people lack tolerance toward the older generation. The reality of growing old hasn't yet caught up with the younger ones who think that it will never happen to them but; it does and that's when they greatly regret having been disrespectful toward their elders. We have a lot to learn from the lines of experience we see in the faces of the elderly and we are reminded that "a fool refuses wise counsel"
Reply:I don't know about killing anyone. Arrested...I don't know. People insult others all the time. But assult is a different story.
Reply:isnt time for you to go to bed
Reply:Oh, my God! You want to kill or arrest people for being rude! Are you saying that we should go back to the days of the wild west when that was the way of life? May I ask who is going to judge who was rude and why? Do you realize that elderly people are more rude and hurtful than today's youth, just because they think they have been there and done that!!!
Reply:No the rpoblem is we have enough real criminals to worry about in our society before tying up our prisons with this stupidity. Furthermore who's to say what constitutes rude or insulting? A guy I went to school with got in big trouble for slapping girls on the backside but it turns out he is from Brazil and this is quite a common greeting there.

We Americans are gonna have to learn we aren't alone out there and we better grow some thick skin.
Reply:I hate when people are ruse.
Reply:Killing or arresting is coming on a bit strong isnt it? Not all old people are polite either, can we kill or arrest old people if they are rude to young people? Two wrongs don't make a right.
Reply:I don't think that they should be killed or arrested....I do wish that there was a way to stop it, because I do think that it sometimes leads to violence. Especially if they become an everyday thing. They say that some of the kids that have shot up schools and stuff were picked on and insulted by other students and therefore sought revenge on them by shooting up the school. I dont really know what you could do to stop it though. Maybe some new form of punishment if the insults were really bad and happened all the time.
Reply:Know what, I've thought about this myself. The fact is that if you read the Constitution, you'll see that we all have the right to free speech. It would be unlawful to arrest people because they're rude. No, I don't think it should. When people are rude or negative, the people around them decide to hang out or not with them. A mature person can or can learn to ignore the losers. They're no better than the rest of us nuts anyway. lol Just be the best person you can and help people in need of assistance. The insane defence wouldn't work here, but it's a funny thought.
Reply:Wtf does "ruse" mean?
Reply:The more we restrict and punish people's behaviors, the less and less free our society becomes. Nazi's and Communists LOVE to restrict what people say, read, and do. So my answer to your question is a resounding "NO!" Insults are not nice, but aren't so bad as to surrender freedom of speech.

So what do you want, Fascism with forced obedience or Freedom with the occasional ******?
Reply:I know what you mean. Rude people are basically rude because they believe they have superior rights to another person's rights. I know how much it makes me want to have a cousin Vinny I could call to have go pay a visit to the rude person and maybe leave a dead animal in their bed. Unfortunately all that would make me end up feeling like I was as bad as the rude person.

I have just had to learn to disassociate myself from a person's actions and look at it with the observation of a scientist doing a study on rude people. Just note their behavior and wonder at it...don't become involved emotionally.

Why don't people take responsibility for their actions anymore?

I meet people every day who have made mistakes, then they try to take the easy way out - they don't seem to care who they hurt in the process, and don't seem to get the fact that what's easy now isn't always the easiest in the long run.

People wanting to have $ex and needing to know how to do it without getting pregnant, people trying to get out of tickets, people trying to pass drug tests even though they're using....these are just a few examples of things I see from people I've met, and from people who post question here.

Am I the only one who sees a decline in people taking responsibility for their actions? What's so wrong with thinking that people shouldn't be doing something if they're not willing to live with the consequences of their actions??

I'm not looking for people to name-call or insult me. If you don't agree with me, just tell me why you think it's okay to do somehting when you're not willing to live with the consequences of your actions.

Why don't people take responsibility for their actions anymore?
I agree with you. Society is crumbling and it seems acceptable to cry and whine and carry on.

Lack of responsibility is high on the agenda and disciplining children low on the agenda.

I'm tired of the constant BS....suing people seems to be the norm nowadays and we have to watch what we say or we're labelled something nasty....

Ugh! When will it all end? Probably only after we've managed to wipe ourselves out!

Okay, that's my "happy" thought for the day! ha!
Reply:Society has taught people that nothing is their fault. Most people have believed this lie because it is easy to believe it.
Reply:There is nothing wrong with wanting to have sex without getting pregnant, and I think everyone knows how to do that. Why do I think this? Having sex, when the two people are adults and the sex is consentual, is enjoyable, and hurts no one.

I think people should take responsibility for their actions, but I can certainly understand someone wanting to get out of a traffic ticket, or wanting to have sex without becoming pregnant.
Reply:People do not have the morals that they should have. A lot of people only care about themselves and they need to grow up.
Reply:I would agree with your examples of people not taking responsibility except for the people wanting to know how to be be responsible with not getting pregant before they are ready to have child. It is a major life undertaking and not fair to bring a child into the world unless you really want it and are both able (financially and emotionally) and willing to there for it. To me practicing safe sex and using birth control until you are ready is taking responsibility for your actions. It doesn't seem reasonable to me to expect humans to only have sex when they want a baby. Its part of our nature and a biologically drive is built into us. Its a human need both physically and emotionally to feel connected to others. That doesn't mean we need or want all the children that could potentially be born or more importantly that we have the time and resources to care for them.

As for the other stuff, I think that it has always been part of human nature to look for the easy way. It may or may not be worse now than in the past. I don't know. =)

Black people stereotype?

do people believe that blacks are all the same people %26gt;?

just cause you see it all tv dosent mean were all the same but here are the stereotypes.

1, hip hop rap music were gangsters.

2,we talk diffrent. hood talk. yo yo yo

3 we eat fried chicken

4, black people have bad attitude's

5, black guys are deadbeats

6, black women having problem with white women cause they take there men

7, black men are angry,

8, black people smoke crack

9, black women good for shaken their butts rap videos

10, when somethink happens is it the black brotha getting stopped.

know the issues on why ive brought this up is because. is that what people think of black people. know ive meet all types i dont like to sterotype just on the based of their color. i dont belive from 1to 10 on these sterotypes that all black people are based on that. do you agree or disagree and why %26gt;?

Black people stereotype?
alright so, i personally think steroetyping is wrong, bacaus it limits the way we get to know each other. almost half of my friends are black...and surprisingly.....they are proud off all this steroetyping thang oing on. like, the fried chicken. you tell them they eat too much fried chicjken, theyll be all like heall yah nigguh! now, i think the fact that people say that black people smoke crack is very offensive and untrue. all im trying to say is that everyone is different in their own ways, and sterotyping is not necessery. :) have a nice day
Reply:Um, Yea I Agree, its due to hip-hop

and number 3. ALOT OF Differnt races eat Fried chicken
Reply:Black stereotypes annoy me. I actually had a white man say that I wasn't "really" black. I am pretty typical of middle class black people. I value education. I'm traveled. I have a wide variety of interests -- including classical music. Strange, you don't see people on television who are like the black people I know.
Reply:I think those sterotypes suck. I mean the only people that buy into them are stupid weak-minded people. If you want to know the truth about it, you have people in every race that eat fried chicken, and listen to hip hop music. Whites, blacks, hispanics, chinese people i have seen them all smoke crack. As far as a black woman hating on white women for "stealing our men" well as far as I'm concerned they can have them!. But its not only black men white women, its black women and white men as well. Does the media or the people that are coming up with these statistics sterotype then amount of white women who hate black women for taking their men? I think not!

The fact is no one should sterotype any one. You are not the judge of me!

Sterotypes are stupid and only stupid weak-minded people play into them. Those who are followers instead of leaders.

Oh yeah and about #9, well you have to admit there are 96% of black women with a nice ,round, firm a*s, and 96% of white women with no a*s. So who would you pick??????? A*s? or noassatall?
Reply:These are stereotypes of Black People. They are not true. But they do exists in peoples minds.
Reply:No, of course not. But what's interesting is that there are a lot of African-American comedians who take advantage of stereotypical beliefs for their routines. I'd say that helps perpetuate the stereotypes and keeps them going.

I'm white, my best friend is black. She emails me all kinds of funny and silly things (videos, stories, comedy clips) that get sent around within her family and her black friends, and a lot of the stuff in the emails use the same stereotypes, or variations of them. I sometimes think, wow...if a white person were to email any of that stuff, people would think he or she was a racist!
Reply:I don't think all black ppl r the same, but the shitty thing about these stereotypes are that we don't try to break free from them, and we start to beleive them. buti do love me some fried chicken.
Reply:You have to understand the people in those videos are paid to act that way. A lot of the black culture feed into what they think is real. When in reality management create these lyrics and images. I'm maybe latino but my best friend is black he's very intellegent and portrays none of these stereotypes...except the friend chicken but I like it too. I agree there are some blacks that act like that but it all began in the early 90's with that image. I want to say more but you get the idea.
Reply:It's like any other culture. I'm Mexican and our stereotype are;

Mariachi music

Spicy foods(tacos)

Howling when a good song is playing(Ajjjuaaaa)

Construction working(I love it)

Bumping that base out loud in the our 2 watts speakers

Cucaracha horn sound etc......

I think each culture should be different or otherwise this world would of been boring.
Reply:I agree
Reply:I don't think this is the proper group for this question .... but, the numbers and statistics speak for themselves. 80 % of black children are born without a father. There are more blacks in jail than in college dorms. Blacks are over represented in homicides involving drugs.
Reply:", hip hop rap music were gangsters." Most hip hop artists are the ones keeping these stereotypes going, so maybe you want to raise the issue with them.
Reply:Since this is the GBLT I would like to say that there's plenty of stereotypes out there about gays and lesbians aswell. And for those people who get there source from there television set on how one acts or is. They are missing a big chunk of reality by not exposing themselves to real people instead of characters on their tv sets.

and thats all i have to say about that.
Reply:yes we all do the above
Reply:I don't believe in any stereotypes. It's wrong to stereotype people. Everyone has their own individual personality.
Reply:Nobody truly beleives it, but a lot of people want the "black american" stereotype to be true. This is because a lot of people, black and non-black are afraid to take an honest look at black people and the complicated and bittersweet nature of black Americans. It is so muc heasier to make up and keep a sterotype going than to face reality.

I disagree with the stereotypes because black people have as much freedom and difference as any other people. It is just that many black people embrace the stereotype to mock dominant culture and out of fear of not suceeding doing things that are outside of the sterotype.

Nowadays a lot of blacks sterotype themselves. Rap music used to describe the reality and dreams of a strong and resilient and profound subset of black culture. Now most mainstream rap is brainwashing black youth and white youth to encourage blacks to live out sterotypes and to put meaningless sex, riches, and power before god, family and dignity. Rap and other popular media( films) is a godsent to many youth, but it has also told many lies. Basically, popular media is trying to make the most money(sell tickets and merchandise and cars) by desecrating a sacred people.

Why do people treat people who have mental disorders like they're just trying to get attention and make fun of

I was diagnosed with Organic mood disoder bipolar type(Basically i was told im bipolar) and I was diagnosed with seizure disorder at 16 now 28.I also have Major depressive disorder mild recurrence, and dystymethia.I have had people call me crazy and make fun of me for having these disorders, because sometimes i admit my behavior isnt normal. But why put down a person for something they cant control or change?Im not looking for sympathy here,i dont want or need it.I would just like for people to consider the fact that people have things in their lives that they cant control or change, and it doesnt help with people making fun of the way they might act or do things.SO why is there inconsiderate people who make fun of people who have disorders like mine or worse? Are we not people too?

Why do people treat people who have mental disorders like they're just trying to get attention and make fun of
Hi :)

Unfortunately, people will laugh at what they don't know. For example my parents made gay jokes all their lives until I brought a gay friend home. -Im not gay btw. The jokes stopped. I know people who have depression. Their friends and family don't make jokes, because they understand it. No matter what you do there will always be people who are naive. Don't hold it against them, in a way, you are also appointed the educator of this illness. I too, had to defend mental illness. What you are posting here is great. It gives a voice. Oh and youre soooo not crazy! Are people with cancer and diabetes crazy? It's just as a physical disease as they are.

Take care of yourself :)

Another thing I just read the post above mine that said not to tell people... well, obviously you don't go around admitting to everyone you have depression or diabetes etc. Tell those you can support you. Those who don't understand... You can tell them the same thing I told you ;) I know someone who has....... and this is the reality.... and no... they're NOT crazy...
Reply:There are some people that don't believe in mental disorders. the people that say that you should be able to have control over what you do and what your body does. It's hard for people to grasp the idea when they've never experienced anything like it. I've been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder (about ten years ago) and recently panic disorder, and its very frustrating when i tell someone about it, or about situations i've been through, and they just dont understand, and they make fun of it, and it pisses me off, but there's nothing you can do about it. You can't change everyone else's perception. You cant educate everyone.
Reply:Most people are small and petty. Those are the ones that will make fun of you. Ignore them and pity them for their pathetic lives.

What you suffer from is a medical condition, just like Cancer is. If you had cancer, you would take chemo or radiation right? Why would it be any different for a chemical imbalance?

As far as the meds, have you discussed inpatient therapy to try to get your medications straight? It might be worth looking into.
Reply:Do you take your meds the way you should be? If you are, your behavior should be somewhat normalized - especially if you are in therapy to control it as well.

I personally know a few people who are bipolar. They are great to be around when they are taking their meds. The frustrating part is that all of the bipolars I know go off their meds and act out. I've never made fun of them, but I have expressed my frustration with their behavior which is so controlled under the meds and therapy. It is as if they like to go off the meds every once in a while so they can act out.

I'm not saying you are doing this at all. But - my question still stands...are you taking your meds and not going on and off them? Bipolor is very controllable if you take care of yourself.
Reply:Im 35 and schizophrenic on meds and this is what I do.Hide it.Its nobodys business ! They are never going to accept mental illness because it scares them.So do yourself a favor.Dont talk about it.If they mention your behavior just say your eccentric or say well isnt everyone a little crazy? Understand this society will never accept it because it makes them afraid it could happen to them or some bipolar or schizo person might shot up Mcdonalds. The other thing is that people have a dark side. They like to look down their nose at those who are diffrent.I understand it.You can IM me if you like but really just act as if your as normal whatever that is as possible and keep taking your meds. Also start painting or playing an instrument that exscuses all crazy behavior.Im an artist.People just think Im creative. They dont know without meds Im a real picnic.
Reply:1] Most people are not able to say 'there but for the grace of god go I"; it is easier to make fun of people.

2] Many people do not understand that mental illness is a chemical imbalance in the brain. Would they make fun of diabetics ?

3] There are racists who attack people because they are different, but being black is not exactly a choice; such people simply want to hate and hurt others.

4] Some people are simply ignorant of proper behavior.

5] I have concluded that %26gt;99% of assholery comes from insecurity. Such people are simply trying to dump on you because they are insecure.

6] Let's face it, there are a lot of swine out there, but living well is the best revenge.

7] So when someone dumps on you, consider the source, conclude they are a jerk, and ignore it. Easy to say, I know, but it is the only way to protect yourself.

8] You could look them in the eye and say "I was raised to never make fun of disease, injury, or disability; did nobody teach you that when you were young ?"
Reply:People have their own ideas of what "normal" is-and what doesn't fit into their range, they find funny. Also-things people do not understand, is usually dealt with in laughter. You cant let them bother you-and I know it is easier said then done, but do you know the anxiety you are giving yourself just by worrying and/or caring?? Stress and anxiety are so horrible to the body that they can kill a person. Just know in your own heart that you are a good person and peoples approval is not necessary. Keep your head up and feeling better wont happen over night-you will have to profusely tell yourself, dont worry its their ignorance not yours..believe me-but soon it will come naturally to you to just shrug off the ignorance. If you let it consume you-it will only make your problems worse, and you dont need or deserve that. Also, when you are stressing over their ignorance-they are going about their lives, forgetting anything ever happened, while you suffer wondering why-is that fair? No. You are letting yourself suffer-dont let them get to you hun. The world is full of great people, as well as the bad. Just know how great you are and keep that in mind, take care okay??
Reply:The main reason people are like this is because they dont understand.

To them, its not normal, and it may frighten them as theyve never experienced it them selves and its new.

Why is people to people student ambassador program a good program?

The People to People Student Ambassador Program is an organization that offers international travel opportunities to elementary, middle, and high school students. The People to People Student Ambassador Program is one of the sponsored programs of People to People International. The mission of such programs is to "promote peace through understanding," in the words of Eisenhower, who founded the program in 1956. Student itineraries combine hands-on cultural experiences, access to people and places that are not always available to tourists, and outdoor experiences to create an international travel opportunity geared toward learning and cultural exchange. Over the past 50 years, Student Ambassadors have traveled to all seven continents with the motto to "promote peace through understanding." Many past participants in the program also attribute a better vision of the world, gain in maturity, and greater confidence to the experience.

Why are people attached to other people wearing a particular name brand?

When you think about it, it is really ridiculous. People want to hang out with people that wear Abercrombie and Fitch (a moose on a shirt or A%26amp;F on the ties of their cargos). The same goes for American Eagle. Some people will not hang out with people wearing Walmart clothes. Same goes for soccer. People admire other people wearing Adidas and Nike. No one ever wants to hang out with someone wearing Starter or some off brand. What is the deal with society? What would happen if someone took your precious name brand clothes away from you..... crumble? This is just something to provoke everyone's thoughts. Get people to think.

Why are people attached to other people wearing a particular name brand?
yeah it is kind of sad that people judge other people on how much money that they have or their sense of fashion but its just a way of life. dont go with the crowd be a leader
Reply:to be honest i think if u buy A%26amp;F it show that u have money ! i dont see the point of it its like any other brands but expect that it has a moose like a logo! Report It

Reply:Not all people are like that. I like wearing those kinds of clothes because i like them, and they have nice quality, not becasue its a "trend"... I could care less how someone dressed as long as they are funny and nice to be around
Reply:If you want to just vent about how you think an attitude like that is stupid, then I guess my answer won't be very helfpul. But if you want a real answer, here's mine: first of all, more expensive clothes are generally of higher quality (up to a certain price range). Therefore, they ARE a worthwhile investment, because they last longer than say, polyester blends from store like Walmart. Second of all, the brands you're naming aren't even the top top top- things get way way waaaay more ridiculous. Lastly, remember this: people who are interested in fashion and brand names are not necessarily shallow. People who "will not hang out with people wearing Walmart clothes" are.
Reply:dude i know!!! its hecka weird. like i shop there and stuff but what really bugs me is when there are people that like only shop there!!! dude like go somewhere else everyonce in a while...and like when people think that like if you go to ae you look cool so therefore you are cool but in my opinion someone who can just go to walmart and get something and look good are the people who are COOL. and when you go to like ae you know that like every one is gonna be wearing the same thing you are cuz every one goes there. lol i think its funny how much im writing about this. i just had alot to say.
Reply:i resent that. i wear walmart clothes and have plenty of friends! i know several people that shop at walmart as well as people who don't who are my friends and i'm proud to say i'm a "walmart baby" :P
Reply:Personally, i stick with certain brands because i am familiar with the fit and feel of the clothing. brands aren't all that bad.
Reply:brands say a lot about people
Reply:Well I am not like that. I am 24 and work at a branch of a high end shoe designer and I get complements everyday for wearing American Eagle and H%26amp;M. Both of those stores "Get" my sense of style; causal, cool, sophisticated. I once worked at Saks and this lady asked me where i got my jeans, i told her american eagle for 30 dollars, she laughed and said no seriously, and then i told her i wasnt kidding, she thought they were designer and thats what i want people to think about me. walmart clothes i have worn before but if you want to feel good i spend extra money on myself.

A question for Black people(others may answer)?

Why is "black pride" mostly%75 all about insulting white people?I have been to quite a few "African American forums %26amp; websites online. It is mostly all about Insulting white people (especialy saying white women are very ugly).White people are holding us back, the white man has done this to usWhite people this, white people that,Our communities look that way cause of white people, one african american forum had a whole section about how ugly white people are.(especilly the women).i have been on the subway and was there why a black man shouted "i hate white people".That has happened more than four different times.yahoo answers also has many racist black folk.I work with pleasant black people at my job.But why are the others that way?We already know there are some racist racist white folk(and others as well)But why can't black pride be about Africa %26amp; black people?Serios Question,No racist remarks,God bless the world

A question for Black people(others may answer)?
Those are racist forums not pride forums. You should stay away from those. Not all blacks feel that way, just like all whites are not racists. Don't let the attitudes of a few racist blacks cloud your opinion of all blacks. 2D
Reply:its the same as white pride. i also think everybody racist. That's why people live in expense home's. where they can get a much bigger home where Black's live and cheaper. Even blacks is racist to each other. I myself I'm black and proud to be black, but I want live in a all black neighborhood.
Reply:Probably because we also see white pride being racist as well...it is all the same thing IMO.
Reply:its the same thing as racist " rednecks", white racists hate blacks because they think that they are ruining society, and black racists hate whites because they think they are bringing them down, i dont personally know any of these people but its their own problem, its all hate
Reply:This is because discrimination and racism are defined differently in society based on the color of your skin.
Reply:I think they say white women are ugly, is because balck women are writing it, and they get jealous as hell of them, they think that white women are taking their men or something, lol

Why do people regular accept gay people, even thou deep inside they hate them?

i known people to say, " gay people are just like everybody else", and when they are sure nobody important hears them, admit that they think gays are destroying the morality of our nation. i for one am not particularly fond of gays, but i think they should do whatever they want, BEHIND close doors and not try to imposse it on the rest of the country and make themselves look like freaking victims. i have heard some fags describe their suffering to those of black people. C"MON PEOPLE!! those people really did suffer and deserved rights, how dare they even think they are on the same level. so lets be honest people, who really thinks gays should just keep it to themselves, and be grateful that people dont do "fag drags" anymore

Why do people regular accept gay people, even thou deep inside they hate them?
Fear of retribution. Funny how so few gays are able to force the whole nation into the closet, while they parade outside of it. Fear.

You're not alone. And be assured, sane people (people who still have a spec of moral fiber left in their being), know homosexuality is not right and the movement represents something that is morally wrong.
Reply:I guess people do it cos they doesn't wanna be mean, but I do feel creepy around gay people.
Reply:ok 1st off i dont like gay people because we wernt created by God to like people of our own gender. but i do love them because they are still children of God and we must love all of His children. at least thats my reason, i dont know about everyone else. so i guess u can say i dont like them, i dont like what hey are doing.... but deep down i love them.
Reply:And how would YOU know how people feel inside??? Who died and made you God?
Reply:You people crack me up.....God bless you all!

From one big gay guy to all you self righteous homophobes....LOL.
Reply:There are those people that have what they believe in public and then have what they believe in private; they are usually at opposing ends. They will say the socially/politically correct thing but they don't really believe in it.

As for gays destroying the moral fabric of our nation, I think that slaughtering thousand of natives to take their land and enslaving thousands of people to make a profit and become a powerful force in the world has destroyed the morality of our nation.

People should stay out of the private lives of others as long as they are not doing thing abusive to minors, deadly, or physically harmful. If consenting adults of the same sex want to make it with each other, let them. We should not give them a hard time about it. What is destroying the morality of this nation are people who are more concerned about what the two gays down the street are doing instead of being more concerned about what is going on in their own homes. If these people put that effort into raising their own kids and taking care of their own marriages then their morality will be upheld in their home.

Gays have chosen to be gay, in my opinion. They have chosen a life that is unacceptable to many. Unlike blacks, in my opinion, they can choose blend in whereas a black will always be black. However, they should not have to. They should not have to change who they are. They should not have to put up with violence towards them. People who are violent towards gays are idiots.
Reply:What's your problem? I don't hate gay people "deep inside" - my roommate is gay, and I'm very lucky to have such a great roommate. He's a person, not a "f.a.g" to me. Then again, maybe I'm not a "regular" person - I guess I'm better than that. Although gay people have not been slaves, I would compare the discrimination they've faced to the discrimination black people have faced - in both cases people disciminated against people DIFFERENT from them. People are afraid of people different than them. Basically your attitude is reflective of the time in which you have grown up - its okay for black people to have rights, because you've grown up with black people having rights. But the gay thing is new, and for some reason you think a person's choice in sexual partners is a good reason to deny them rights. If you would have been born during a different era - say the 1800s, you wouldn't think black people should have rights either. Its all the same - its all discrimination on the basis of some stupid characteristic that really means nothing about a person.

I seriously hope you homophobes see the light someday and come out of your ignorant state. If you can discriminate and want to kill people, as another person said, based on something as stupid as that, then you can certainly do it for other reasons - like non-christian people, all women who aren't virgins, all people with dark hair and eyes, all people who believe in equal rights - take your pick, we could all be in trouble if you believe its ok to start killing people based on stupid shi* like that.

People like YOU are destroying "the morality of our nation" by secretly enjoying your own bigotry.

People say I am not always the same person. Is this normal?

It is like I develop different personalities according to the people I am with and the situation. My best friend wants me to be the same person and always tells me I am not always the same.

In a group of people she controls me, giving me that look as if to say what am I speaking to her for and constantly talks to me so nobody else will and draws attention to me saying I have white stuff on my pants and asking me if I am alright and will not let me even get food by myself, saying here darling I will help you.

People treat me how she treats me cause they think there is something wrong with me and she is just looking after me.

When I do not sit with her and talk to others she says comments like You have a mini skirt on tonight or hits me when she thinks people talk to me.

She is acting like my mother or my grand mother.

She also calls me darling and people think we are a pair of lesbians.

She will not let me change or break away.

Is it norm to b diff with diff people

People say I am not always the same person. Is this normal?
yes it is absolutely normal. im taking an 'interpersonal communications' class in my junior year of college right now and we just went over this.

it's called 'identity management'. you give off a different part of your personality with different people

for example, i don't act the same way i do around my parents the way i act around my close guy friends. i don't talk about the same things or say the same things

i also don't act the same way around my girlfriend i do around my friends sometimes. i try to be more kinda and sensitive to her feelings.

your not acting like a different person around them, your still yourself, but your just letting different parts of your personality come out differently around different people

you wouldn't act the same around your close friends as you would around co-workers at a business would you?

nothigns wrong with you, your fine
Reply:dude...you shouldnt put up with that. you dont need to be mean or anything, just try to break away.
Reply:Totally normal that you are different when you are with different people. Sometimes you are one way with your friend and another way with another person. You may feel that it is strange how come you feel more and more "not yourself" when you are with some people. That probably means you are feeling pressure from that person. This could be as small of an issue as peer pressure, and as big as an issue as your friend becoming possessive of you. This obviously doesn't mean you guys are becoming lesbians. Good friends who are always together typically develop this kind of complicated relationship, where expectations, rules, and everything you can imagine starts becoming as if it was "normal".
Reply:yes its defenetly normal!

when i''m w/my best friends i'm a total sycho party girl,when i'm w/friends i'm quiet and shy,when i'm w/my familly i'm a goody-goody who makes dumb jokes,when i'm w/my crush i'm a total flirtish prep chic!

so i think its normal or were just both not normal!lol!
Reply:yes. its normal, but you should confront your friend and tell her your just fine without her and people think your lesbians. it may seem harsh, but if she really is your best friend, she'll understand. but its just fine to act different around different people.
Reply:yes--- it could be mood swings or just how comfortable you are around certian ppl. dont worry!

best of luck %26lt;33
Reply:I think so. Not like completely different, but I notice different parts of my personality show through depending on who I am around.
Reply:yes' it's normal to be abnormal

Do People Still Use Rollers in Hair?

I am Black with natural hair (no relaxer) I get my hair straightened out sometimes and I use rollers in my hair at night at times. I use the satin rollers so it can not break my hair when sleeping. I like to flat iron and I like using it but trying to cut back as my hair is very healthy and I want to keep it that way. Some people use heat everyday and I see alot of people with breakage and bad hair. I am 28 years old my question is do people especially younger people still use rollers in their hair? I love the culring iron too but I think people should really look into that again. It takes me about 5 minutes now to roll my hair-I have become a pro! I get my hair straighetened with a pressing comb and some people don't that anymore either. Anyway I was just wondering I feel like I am the only one still doing that up here in Michigan. And do people sleep with the soft satin rollers in their hair at night?

Do People Still Use Rollers in Hair?
I still use rollers, but not on my wet hair. I let my hair dry naturally then mist each strand lightly with distilled water before rolling. I leave the rollers in for about 10-15 minutes then I'm done. I used to use hot rollers when I was younger and they worked fine, but the curling iron is too damaging for my fine hair, especially now. I am 41 now and have to be more careful with my hair than when I was younger because has become more and more fragile over time.
Reply:Who cares what others do if your hair is healthy. Congrats on keeping it that way.
Reply:Oh yes- So many people do- Don't staighten your hair; curl and wave is so beautiful! don't be like everyone else, be yourself!
Reply:My Moms Always ......well OK not always but she still uses them !!!

In fact my nephew actually calls her NANNY CURLERS !!
Reply:yes of course they do

well i don't know about "them" but i do and im 16

i think its a great way to style your hair and keep it healthy.
Reply:i don't think so
Reply:Well people have certainly gotten lazy and turned to hair products and curlers but I still thing that rollers are the best way to go, it doesn't break or damage your hair like everything else does. I'm a bit embarassed to wear them when other people sleep over though, then I turn to products. A lot of people still use them just almost nobody advertises it.
Reply:People still do , One of my friends puts rollers in her hair for special occasions.
Reply:well i don't put them in my hair at night but in the morning after i shower yeah i do and they workd and i love them!!
Reply:I only did that as a kid b/c my mom made me....but the curls were great! I've often thought about doing that to my hair but thought of the uncomfortable sleep I would have and thought better. More power to you if you do it, it looks just as natural as those who have curly hair vs getting a perm
Reply:I use hot rollers but no regular.

Should gay people be racist because most black people seem to be homophobic?

Gay people on the whole are less likely to be racist because they know how prejudice feels. Black people, on the other hand, are much more likely to be bigoted towards homosexuality.

On this site, gay people often rush to the defense of black people but black people seem to be some of the most bigoted around.

Asian people and Muslims are regularly attacked here too but nobody cares, although any attacks against black people meet with a great uproar. Ironic?

Should gay people be racist because most black people seem to be homophobic?
I am not homophobic, I do not entirely agree with the lifestyle, but that does not mean that I hate gays or fear them. You must understand that most of black america was born and raised in the baptist church. Our religion is our foundation. The baptist church preaches against homosexuality. So it is programmed into us.
Reply:As a person who is black and gay, I disagree with your claim that gay people are less racist than blacks are homophobic. I've met plenty of racist white gays. You seem like one. Who else would argue for more bias in response to bias?

There are homophobes of all colors both on this site and in this country and the drivers of most anti gay movements in this country have always been overwhelmingly white Christians. But you aren't suggesting hatred against them. How many blacks are leading the charge to stop gays from marrying? How many blacks have you seem shouting slurs at gay marches? I've never seen even one.

What you're really saying is that SOME blacks are homophobic and who do ANY of these people think they are to dare be biased against you. Only a bigot would make such an argument.
Reply:I've never known any blacks that were homophobic before.

Why are people gay?

I recently read an article with the following quote: "Tellingly two founders of a ministry established to 'heal' homosexuals later described their program as 'ineffective ... not one person was healed'."

Before you answer this question, please give it some deep thought. I am asking this question for a college survey assignment.

Check out this article, if you can:

http://www.boston.com/news/globe/magazin...

Question: Why are some people gay? Do you believe that 80% of people (including heterosexuals) have had an attraction to their same gender at some point in their life? Do you believe being gay is a phase? Or do you believe people are born gay? What makes people gay? Is it genetics? Why do you think so? Or is it a choice? In a society that makes it very difficult to be gay, why do you think people would make that choice? Do you think people's upbringing and lifetime circumstances affect people and cause them to become gay?

Why are people gay?
OK, I'll answer your questions 1 by 1...

Why are some people gay?

They are born that way.

Do you believe that 80% of people (including heterosexuals) have had an attraction to their same gender at some point in their life?

It wouldn't surprise me if that attraction wasn't strong enough to act upon.

Do you believe being gay is a phase?

No. The only phase part I know of being gay is being in the closet.

Or do you believe people are born gay?

Yes.

What makes people gay?

Is it genetics?

Why do you think so?

Scientific studies have shown a difference in the hypothalamus of the brain between homosexual and heterosexual people. At first there was a debate if the brain started out the same and changed over time due to sexual attraction or if it started out differently. Recent studies have shown chromosomal differences and it is widely believed that as gene mapping continues the precise gene will be found. (I included some sources if you are interested).

Or is it a choice?

The only choice is to deny your sexual attraction and attempt to lead a straight life (which unfortunately for those involved usually turns out quite poorly) or to accept your sexual attraction and attempt to live happily.

In a society that makes it very difficult to be gay, why do you think people would make that choice?

Due to society making very difficult to be gay, I think that shows that people do not choose homosexuality. In Islamic countries it is punishable by death, yet there is still homosexuality in those countries.

Do you think people's upbringing and lifetime circumstances affect people and cause them to become gay?

I do not think their upbringing causes them to be gay, but is likely a factor if they accept their homosexuality or not. Among teenagers who identify as gay, the suicide rate is unfortunately high and societal views on homosexuality is the most likely factor.
Reply:PEOPLE ARE GAY BECAUSE THEY CHOOSE TO BE THAT WAY, THEY AIN'T BORN LIKE DAT. I THINK THAT IS JUST NASTY. AND MOST OF THE BOYS WHO LOOK GOOD DEY BE GAY LIKE DAMN WHA GOIN ON? Report It

Reply:The reason you might not be getting too many constructive or detailed answers is that we in the GLBT section are asked this same question several times a day, and have simply got a bit tired of answering it. You could try using the 'search for questions' feature to get previous answers, which will probably give you all the information you need.

For me, in brief: born gay, realised before puberty, pretty sure it can't be a choice, don't know enough about genetics to explain how it happens, and doubtful that upbringing or circumstances could affect anyone's born sexuality.

I know your question was well-meant, definitely more so than a lot of the times it's asked, but it is hard for us to keep repeating ourselves over and over. I hope you understand. Good luck with your assignment.
Reply:I think that it is ridiculous to claim that people choose to be gay.

In Cultural Diversity class we read a quote:

"I'm black and I'm a woman, I've got it pretty hard. Do you think I woke up one day and said to myself 'You know what, I think I'll try being gay too'? Hell no!"
Reply:Q: "Why are some people gay?"

A: Although some people purport that homosexuality is a choice, and others just as strongly purport that it is an inborn trait, no one really knows for sure. Most human behaviors arise from a complex interplay of biological and environmental influences. (To put it another way, "biology loads the gun and environment pulls the trigger.")

Same-sex attraction has been observed in over 1,500 species, and it seems unlikely that these animals experienced alleged "environmental causes" of homosexuality such as a cold or distant father, an overinvolved mother, or sexual molestation at a young age. Rather, biological factors are the most probable cause. For instance, the brains of rams who are sexually attracted to other rams exhibit certain characteristics that distinguish them from the brains of "straight" rams.

Similarly, the brains of gay men seem to share certain anatomical characteristics that distinguish them from the brains of heterosexual men. They also tend to function somewhat differently, in that they tend to excel at verbal rather than spatial tasks (which is more often found among females). Polygenetic and hormonal differences have also been put forth as contributors to a homosexual orientation. Although not all scientists agree - and they never will - the overwhelming consensus and results of state-of-the-art research suggest that there is a robust biological component to same-sex attraction.

So, it seems that people do not have control over which sex they find attractive. What people have more control over is how this attraction is expressed - whether they run and hide from it in shame, or whether they act on it, embrace it, and "come out" as gay. It's obviously a very powerful attraction, as evidenced by the recent fall of Rev. Ted Haggard, who had everything to lose by having sex with men but did so anyway. I'm not at all surprised that "ex-gay" programs are unsuccessful; in fact, they may cause serious psychological harm.

Q: "Do you believe that 80% of people (including heterosexuals) have had an attraction to their same gender at some point in their life?"

A: It's hard to say when people are rarely honest with themselves (let alone others) about their homoerotic feelings. Alfred Kinsey predicted that sexual orientation can be placed along a continuum, so I wouldn't be surprised that many people who identify as "straight" have had sexual feelings toward members of their own gender. Because such urges continue to be heavily stigmatized, it should come as no surprise that people often erect psychological defenses to keep them out of conscious awareness. But surely there's a reason why football players pat each other on the behind. :)

Indeed, it often seems that those who speak the loudest against homosexuality (e.g., Rev. Haggard) are also the most threatened by their own latent homosexual tendencies.

Q: "Do you believe being gay is a phase?"

A: No. I believe that sometimes people question whether they are straight or gay, and may experiment in an attempt to resolve this question for themselves. I think people who claim to have had a "gay phase" would be more appropriately described as bisexual.

Q: "Do you think people's upbringing and lifetime circumstances affect people and cause them to become gay?"

A: I don't think same-sex attraction per se is a function of one's upbringing or environment. However, I do think that people who were raised by authoritarian homophobic parents, or instilled with homophic religious dogmatism, may have a great deal of difficulty coming to terms with their own same-sex attractions. Conversely, I expect it is easier for people with same-sex attractions to accept this aspect of themselves if their families and churches modeled unconditional love.

Hope you found this helpful.
Reply:Question: Why are some people gay?

Do you believe that 80% of people (including heterosexuals) have had an attraction to their same gender at some point in their life? Yes, absolutley. Although many people are ashamed to admit it, even to themselves.

Do you believe being gay is a phase? No.

Or do you believe people are born gay? Yes and no. I believe that some people are genetically prone to being gay, while others chose to be.

What makes people gay? Genetics, environment, childhood history, preferences

Is it genetics? yes

Why do you think so? Hasn't that been been proven?

Or is it a choice? That too

In a society that makes it very difficult to be gay, why do you think people would make that choice? Forbidden fruit

Do you think people's upbringing and lifetime circumstances affect people and cause them to become gay? yes
Reply:I have wondered why some people are gay. I can only come to the conclusion that people are either born gay, or that they are gay as a result of very early influences in their lives. As you pointed out, it seems to be very difficult in the present-day world to be gay; it therefore seems unlikely to me that many people would choose to be gay if they had the option to be something else. In the days when it was treated as a psychological abnormality, it didn't seem to stop people from being gay - it seemed only to serve to make them ashamed of what they were, so it seems to me, once again, that if they could have changed, they would; therefore, it must not be a choice.
Reply:bECAUSE THAT IS WHO THEY ARE.
Reply:I have many gay friends and they all say it's all they've ever known. A couple of them tried to play the hetero game for a while, to avoid the stigmatism of being "different", but they owned up to it in the end (unlike Tom Cruise).

I'd say it's genetic for the most part.
Reply:The truth of the matter is that almost every man (and probably every woman too) has an inherent sexual need for someone of their own sex, and had it not been for social hostility, same-sex unions would be the primary sexuality of people, especially men, as has been seen in almost all pre-christian/ tribalistic societies.

Even today, where ever the hostility towards same-sex bonds are low, men tend to prefer it over such unions with women.

Sexual attraction between men is quite different from 'gay' though. This is something westerners will have a hard time understanding.

'Gay' originally (and since the ancient times) refers to people who are half-men and half-women (later known as neither men, nor women).

E.g. even in the time of Alexander, when almost everyone had sexual bonds with another male, there were some males who were just different. They were males but still looked and behaved like females, and even their sexual desires were feminine. These were known as Catamites.

In India and Pakistan you have Hijras, who are catamites as well as eunuchs. They are an extremely denigrated and despised group.

In the west, post heterosexualisation of society, they came to be known as 'homosexuals'. Only, this time they said any attraction for another man makes one 'homosexual', irrespective of whether or not that person or his desires were feminine.

This is the single most reason that keeps most straight men from owning up their same sex needs. For the fear of being labelled 'homosexual' (i.e. neither male nor female). It would take away their prized manhood from them.

But gays, women and one class of men (who have little sexual need for men) do not understand this. They assume that people's sexual preferences are what they show it to be.

ABOUT THE HYPOTHALAMUS/ CHOROMOSONAL STUDIES

As I mentioned before, the gay community primarily consists of 'third sex' or half-man, half-woman males. A gay to man desire is not really same-sex. Same sex would be man to man. That is how it is in non-western cultures all over the world. A relationship between a gay man and a (straight) man falls within the purview of 'opposite sex', and justifiably so.

The above studies are just a hogwash. The difference in chromosomes/ hypothalamus, et all is because they are 'third sex'/ transgendered/ feminine, and not because they like men. A normal man who likes men will not have any such difference from other men.

And of course, a deficiency in male hormones or chromosomes or a large hypothalamus may as well make you a 'heterosexual'. In fact according to available data almost 90% of transgendered males (half-men, half-women) are heterosexual males.

The masculine gendered men (as is evident from all non-western societies) are mostly either bisexual or (some) exclusively into men.
Reply:Sexuality is most likely caused by a balance of environmental and hereditary cause. Freud hypothesized that it started developing at about seven months of age, then again he was just a tad bit out there.

No one knows what the "exact" cause is, or even if there even if one. I don't think people can change though, once a sexuality is fully developed you are stuck with it for life.
Reply:my answer is just that people dont like the same gender as some other people. It's my opinion but..i think its your choice if u want to be gay, lesbian, and straight!!! so I guess it just depends on wat u believe.
Reply:Nothing about the nature of a particular group of similar humans is either all from one cause or all from another. Get over that assumption and you might be better able to answer your own question with your own research.

And if this is a "survey", why is deep thought required? Most people use "deep thought" in this context mainly to justify the opinion they were going to give regardless.

Anyway, something about your approach makes me want to say you should print out your question, roll it up in the form of a dildo and apply it to yourself accordingly.
Reply:Its natural. Its like saying, why are you not gay?
Reply:I believe without a doubt that I was born gay. I have also been to a psychiatrist to figure this out for real. I am not opposed to people who view it as a choice cuz that is what they will let their mind tell them. My upbringing was your normal disfunctional family setting. I have a younger sister and an older brother. Nothing I can remember has supposedly changed my mind about the opposite sex. I just got to know myself better as I grew up and evolved. I happened to be emotionally, physically, and mentally attracted to someone who happens to have a p.ussy between their legs. I have great relationships with the opposite sex. I just cannot foresee a future of fullfilled love with them. I have been in love twice. It's heartbreaking but I have learned a lot. I can't make myself feel these feelings for men. I have tried and knew that it wasn't meant for me. I have a very supportive and understanding family. Not all people do, regardless of whether they are straight or gay.
Reply:why do people need an analysis on why a person is gay? in all honesty it has zero effect on your life, so who cares, love is love, let it be!
Reply:I believe the answer is quite obvious - when did heterosexuals make that conscious choice to be heterosexual? Date, time, location? I seriously doubt that any one of them can answer that question. You are what you are, whether by design or destiny. To use it as an excuse to persecute any group is pure cowardice.
Reply:I think I was born gay. I don't think 80% of people had same-gender attraction--some people move back and forth, but most people are straight all the way, some people are gay all the way, and a very few people are in between. I do think it's genetic, because as long as I can remember, I've felt sexual attraction to other boys, even before I knew what "gay" was. Why would people choose to be gay? They wouldn't...more proof that it isn't a choice. I don't think upbringing has anything to do with it.
Reply:Yes I believe that 80% of the people are attracted to the same gender. Yes I beleive that people are born with it. It can be a choice when you have had enough of being messed around with the other sex, but the other sex will always be their as option when you are done with your phase.

The last question I will have to say no to the upbringing and yes to the lifetime circumstances.

Genetics and going through crappy stuff in life will make you attracted to the same sex.
Reply:They are born that way. The Y chromosome is not immediately present at conception and sometimes it goes awry. So people are born with male genitalia but a female mindset or vice versa. It happens more often than people realize.

There is some evidence that sexual abuse in early childhood may also affect one's sexual identity.

One cannot change their sexual identity but can decide to simply abstain from sexual activity.
Reply:There was an article a few months back in Scientific American Mind which was very enlightening. It said that sexuality is a spectrum, not just a matter of homosexuality or heterosexuality. It's like a reverse Bell curve. Most people fall more toward one end or the other, but there are a lot of people who fall somewhere in between, either at different times in their lives or throughout their lives.

They don't have the entire article online (well, they do, but you have to pay $5 for it) but you can probably find that particular issue in your local library.

Reply:It's not a choice. They are born that way. Their hypothalamus is larger than heterosexuals. It's biological. If a heterosexual can be born that way, why is it so hard to believe that a homosexual is not?
Reply:I am a lesbian. I was born a lesbian. I like being a lesbian. People are basically bisexual to one degree or another. Some of us are on the ends of the spectrum because we have either same sex attraction or opposite sex attraction, but the vast majority fall somewhere in between. This basic biological, genetic fact of our existence needs to just be accepted. We must stop all of this hyperventilating over sex. Give civil rights to all citizens, allowing them to marry for legal and economic reasons. Promote fidelity, safe homes for kids, and a return to caring neighborhoods for all. Stop allowing people to "bash" anyone with violence or sick humor. Start paying attention to the real problems that we all face, no matter what our sexuality may be.
