Why do people use Yahoo Answers?

After joining Yahoo! Answers, I found some questions that really made me think. For example, I found a bunch of questions about people that had medical problems and were asking questions about them. I've seen completely wrong and stupid answers in science being chosen as best, very dangerous advices given to people with health problems, etc. I found people with sick pets asking questions here. I also found people needing advice. If you have something important, call the doctor or vet, look on google or wikipedia, or just don't post on here. if you need advice, go ahead, post! but be careful, you might not always get the answer you're looking for. Some people enjoy hurting people, so don't take all of your answers seriously. Don't take all of the advice given to you here, because it may harm someone or something. People here can be bored, perverted, or just plain stupid. Some people just want their 2 points. These are my opinions. What do you think of them, and what are yours?

Why do people use Yahoo Answers?
I don't ask for that kind of advice, but I'll assume most people do it because Yahoo! Answers is a safe, anonymous place to post. They don't have to worry about confronting someone face-to-face to deal with a problem they have. There's a disclaimer at the bottom of the page, but most people don't take note of that unfortunately. I hope they have the sense to know which answers are really the best or at least look at them objectively and use those answers to help them out when seeking help elsewhere. If you do see something dangerous, though, it's best to respond to the question yourself stating how you know that it's dangerous and to report the other answer as abuse so users may not see it in the future. It's not a perfect system, but there isn't much we can do. If you have suggestions to improve this, please post them in the user forum linked in the upper right of this page. I'm sure everyone would like to help.
Reply:So people can answer their nost desired questions. That they wouldn't want to ask others and your identity is safe. Since you would use nicknames that your friends wouldnt know.
Reply:Your totally right and I so agree with you. People now in days are so sick in the head. But your totally right you shouldn't always go with what people say. Sometimes it's best to just go with what you yourself think is right. People should just learn to follow their instincts. Just have confidence in oneself and everything would just work out right.
Reply:In my answers I try to give people good advice if it's something medical or dangerous (like go to the doctor quit asking stupid people for advice), for the stupid stuff (ex. does this dress make me look fat) I just say what I feel, that's what makes Yahoo Answers fun. I don't care about the points, I just like to see what people are asking and see if their opinion is the same or different from mine.
Reply:I think people just like to "hear themselves talk" It's just another avenue to ask or complain about an issue you've been having. I don't think anyone in their right mind should use this as the end all be all of the answer to their question. Certainly there are many other sources that are much more qualified to give proper answers. It's really just a unique forum of opinions, where people can get "paid" to give their opinion as well. I would not take it so literal. It's interesting to see the advise and such that people come up with.

Reply:I completly agree with you. When there is an question about some medical problem,I answer it if I've had simiral experience,but I ALWAYS advice them to see a doctor.A few times,I even said that it is better to go to the doctors/hospital ,then to listen to advices that are given around here. I don't take answers (that I get on my questions) to seriously,but it is just because I've seen how many twisted people are around here. When I answer,I honestly try to help.
Reply:I agree, many times I look at Yahoo! Answers just for the entertainment value.





If I perceive the asker to be asking out of legitimate need, I will give the best answer I know, often backed up with a source. If I perceive the asker is not asking "with purpose", well, whatever happens, happens. You get what you pay for.
Reply:well i personally hope people using this, are just using it as a reference tool....its like asking advice at work, in the breakroom, or in line at the super-market....lol its not solid, its just an aide its like neat to see other ppl's opinions...........BUT if theres ppl on here dumb enough to take it all seriously then i hope ppl read ur parental advisory..... that u got there buddy ;)
