Why are so many people honestly, ignorant in our society?

Intellingent people: have common sense, understand the world around us, all its beauties and corruptions, and focus on things that really matter, read the newspaper, keep up etc.

Ignorant people: judge, talk, backstab, act like immature children, only care about themselves, and stupid pursuits in life.

I mean, there just seems to be so much stupidity everywhere that's rampant.

How do people honestly, get by being as stupid and petty and immature as they are?

I've been on BOTH roads. When I'm around too many ignorant people, my brain obviously picks up on it and says "danger, these people are idiots," and then my own bi-polar, crazy, judgemental side comes out, b/c it's frustrated.

However, when I come across "smart" people, I think wow, why aren't more people like you?

TOO many people are downright neurotic.

Even religious people. I dived headfirst into religion thinking it was an answer, but many of those people havent a CLUE about anything. Ignorance!

HELP!

Why are so many people honestly, ignorant in our society?
"Why are so many people honestly, ignorant in our society?" ...Because the prospect of the "American Dream" has caused them to forego conscious effort in favour of sleepy carelessness?

"How do people honestly, get by being as stupid and petty and immature as they are?" ...Perhaps by congregating...you know the old cliche "never underestimate the power of the stupid people in large groups".

"How do you deal, chat with, or carry a conversation, or even tolerate people who are oblivious and ignorant?" ...I don't. Period. (Though not necessarily intentionally...I'm a shy person).

However, one must be careful of too much cynicism also. By refusing to share information with others and avoiding communication, you're contributing to the spread of ignorance. Sometimes it's best to give others the benefit of the doubt (even though it may seem fruitless at the time) and try to see what you can learn from them rather than expecting them to learn something from you...TC, Luke.
Reply:you can't escape ignorance, but you can surround yourself with good people.
Reply:The 'honestly ignorant' ones do seldom harm others, as they are busy, most of the time, with harming themselves !

...It is the 'dishonestly ignorant' people that one should be wary about, plus very careful with - because they will gladly eradicate anyone who does not agree with their petty peeves and weird views.

Unfortunately, their tribe is multiplying rapidly, with each passing day !
Reply:The two prerequisites for establishing Fascism are: A. Economic crisis, and B. The establishment of the idea that ignorance should be VENERATED. We're there, dude.

That's the part you're missing, Luke. Your assumption is that people would naturally desire to be informed. But in the United States anyway, the tide has changed. I mean when the Attorney general says that "Waterboarding" isn't torture, but "technique" -- anyone can see it takes real willfulness on the part of the listener to accept such crap as the truth.

Remember, all totalitarian societies see rounding up "intellectuals" as a priority. Call it the "Patriot Act" if you like. The smell is unmistakable.
Reply:Hah! I have a friend like you, not really an answer, but I guess just chill and let the people do as they wish

Could be because they were born that way or not enough schooling... O_o
Reply:I totally know and understand what you are saying!!

I blam socity a bit...because they allow people just to be stupid! instead of pushing them to better themselves. Even the TV shows are showing more ignorant content to dumb themselves down so that a certain class of people can understand what is going on.

Here is a good example that happened to me the other day. One of my neighbors left his gate open and his dog was running around trying to bite people. I told him "your dog is out. You should really be more careful." His replay was "Oh your threatening me!" I was like "no I am not. are you the owner of the dog?" He says "yes" I reaply "well, then its your resposiblity to make sure that it stays in your yard!" his replay "your threating me!" I said "ar you that ignorant?"

he just walk away.
Reply:because God don't have good men enough to launch over the world
Reply:It seems to me people don't want to be intelligent. They'd rather be ignorant of everything going on around them, they want to have as much fun as they can while they're on this earth without any thought of the future and those around the.
Reply:Amen. I act like they aren't even in my world.
Reply:i hate to sound like an old mother but, ignorance is bliss.complaining about others and backstabbing is a quick way to make a person feel superior to others, a quick fix for poor self esteem. i feel this is a product of todays society of instant gratification and lack of genuine work. parents are teaching their kids to rely on others for good feelings about themselves instead of fostering self controll and good work habits.
Reply:Hey Luke to much rubbish TV /food/magazines we are bombarded with ads that tell us how to look how to act and how to have relationships
