Why do people justify being shallow?

lets face it, today's society still treats people unfairly. sure most people in america have evolved past judging people based on race or background, but they still have a long way to go. a lot of people today feel that they only have to respect people who have some sort of talents or social status and that they can treat anybody else however they want. look at Donald Trumph. the guy is an arrogant jerk. if an average person were to act like him, the person wouold have no friends..same with athletes, singers, and actors. and look at American Idol. what exactly gives Simon the right to treat people like that? he can be constructive without being a jerk. just because they weren't created with great voices, they deserve to be humiliated? appearently, a lot of people have no problem with that. and whenever somebody complains, people say this is how things are supposed to be. isn't survival of the fittest the way animals live? is that what we are? what ever happened to the golden rule?

Why do people justify being shallow?
You answered your question - because they think they are better than others and feel superior in some cases. In others, we couldn't possibly have such horrible feelings or motives - we are so wonderful - and therefore blame the victim for our actions. And, a Godless society enjoys the pain and humiliation of others and our country allows it under "freedom of speech." But, remember - don't talk about God - that doesn't fall under "freedom of speech." - Heavy sarcasm.

Be in the world but not of the world. Go with God - he will take care of you and you will be alright.

Simon is unlikeable and the only power he has is on that show - anywhere else he would have none as his opinion(s) don't matter in the real world. One day he will realize that and will have a looooooooooooooooooong fall. He has a GIGANTIC EGO.
Reply:Doing what others do is easy. Doing what is right takes courage and strength of character.
Reply:I've never met the man, and I have no idea what he is really like, but I guess the problem with the representation of Donald Trump on television is that journalists confuse wealth with wisdom. Tony Blair is also an example. He enjoys the company of rich people. He is described as obsessed by millionaires, as if their money gave value to their opinions. In reality as soon as many rich men and women start to speak, it's obvious they know nothing about their surroundings.

By the way, I wouldn't worry too much about the voices of the cast on American Idol etc. For the past twenty or thirty years, people who have absolutely no musical talent have been making records which have sold in huge numbers. A large bra size and an eye for sensuous costume are more important than the ability to hold a note.
