Why do people "label" people?

Alright, i hate it when stupid idiotic people label people calling them emo, punk, goth, or such just cause they wear black. Some people wear it in order of their season colors, meaning winter and such. Other chicks were preppy styles and stuff because they like it, but nooo people call them preps. Other people wear green and love animals, and you call them hippie. People are poetic and love to imagine stuff, and you call them emo? Thats creativity, art, and stuff. Then you call a nice sensitive guy a jock, just cause you think hes a touch football player. I need to know do you label people? And why do you do it? It gets annoying.!! Leave it alone!! And Ditch the Label!!

Why do people "label" people?
It's human nature, really. I label people, but not to be malicious. It just makes things easier. The fact is, stereotypes are generally pretty true.

I don't understand why you're so upset over it. Boohoo.
Reply:people keep doing that cos they project their own undesirable qualities , that they decline to accept as a part of their personalities or just are fooling themselves by acting very confident (which is a sign of inferiority complex).. so

they just put their friends and everybody else in certain frames and in the worst scenario dont allow them to step out of this imaginary stereotypes. also it is a way to arrange their life , its a kind of a filter to always have an opinion about everyone, so they can choose who they like, dislike ...that is the disease of our centuries ..
Reply:in order to be able to create meaningful relationships
Reply:Sicko.
Reply:I noticed you missed out how entire minorities are often 'labelled' in a negative light but still focussed on a lot of 'stereotyping' that couldn't be less relevant.

You're talking about identity, and believe it or not, a lot of people deliberately choose those 'labels' themselves for the sake of having an identity to belong to, not the other way round.

I could care less about the 'labels' you've mentioned. The only time it irritates me is when I'm pigeon holed by 'goths', 'emos' and 'jocks' just because I'm black and listen to hiphop. The fact I listen to a vast range of music and dress however I like is irrelevant; I'm black and so can be pigeon holed along with all the irrational stereotypes associated with being black. The difference? all the people you mentioned choose a lifestyle that validates the label attached to that choice. I, on the other hand, am not even the person I'm told I'm supposed to be, yet I'm being told I am that person anyway. That's 'labelling' gone wrong. So ditch the label sure, but the relevant ones, please.
Reply:A lot of time it's simply a lack of knowledge about the person they label. It's easy to jus' create a noun to refer to all people that are similar as instead of treating them as individuals. I will say, there's some people that act a certain way that pretty much WANT to be label and even label themselves, which I can't stand. But as far as labeling other, I believe it's jus' because they don't know anything about who they're labeling.
Reply:probably to make different groups in the society. to differentiate each one.

well, it doesn't mean that when a person is labelled as an emo he/she does things that an emo do. it's more like the way he/she dresses, not his/her attitude.

you're an emo because you look like one, not because you act like one. you're a hippie because you dress like one. not because you act like one.

it's not always we label you this because you act like one. sometimes it's just because you look like one.

and some people change their looks to be included to this labels, so what's wrong with it?
Reply:I absolutely agree. And while I am guilty of the odd cliche when describing someone I DO totally get where you are coming from. We are indiviuals. Unique. Keep thinking along the same lines. I like your style.
Reply:sorry but lebel represent people who they r not just we lebel them cuz we hate them we just think having lebel will make people reconize them that u can be whatever u want
