Why are some people so fascinated by this one word?

It seems to me more and more people are fasinated by the N word. I've heard things like black people can say it so why can't anyone else. The reality of the situation remains that no one should be able to say it and even though they act like they can't and don't they do! I hear people say that to each other all the time! Why are some people under the impression that all black people say it? I'm not in favor of that word at all! I hate that when I'm listening to music they'll use that word ten times in one sentence sometimes! My questions to you all are as follows...

1. Why do so many people want to say it?

2. Why do so many people believe all us black people say that?

3.Do you believe that you saying it because we can say it will get rid of this word?

4. What can we do as one to get rid of this word?

I know they're are some ignorant people who will answer this with things like it's only fair but what's your own personal opinion?

Why are some people so fascinated by this one word?
Trust me; I despise the N word too. I’ve never insulted anyone using this word, and I choose not to do so in the future. However, I would like to clarify why so many (disrespectful) blacks still use it.

The “N word” is not solely linked with blacks but with other races too; (even though it originated from black history). Where I’m from, African Americans frequently use it to describe someone that is wicked, unintelligent, improper, ignorant, or simply a pain in the butt, regardless of whether you’re black, white, Hispanic, Asian and so on.

So, believe me when I say that ANYONE can be offended by this word! Sometimes, blacks use it to greet each other informally, (which makes no sense to me), but that’s the way things are.

If the N word is used (properly!), it doesn’t bother me. On the other hand, using that word in a normal conversation, in a song, or even in an argument, is completely unnecessary and horrible. The history of this word is extremely hurtful.

Does anyone want to know to know why blacks think they are entitled to say it? It’s because they understand the past of this word more than any other race, and the offensiveness underneath it. If a person that is not black uses that word, it comes across in a nastier way than if an actual black person said it; (for obvious explanations).

Although, this concept doesn’t excuse the reality that it is an evil word! And you’re absolutely correct; no one should be allowed to say it.

1. To answer your first question, I have no idea why people feel the need to use it. Maybe, it’s because they want to make light of it, but that’s …unusual and somewhat dense.

2. A lot of people believe that all black people say it because, well… a lot of us do. However, countless blacks don’t like that word. (If anyone reading this answer thinks that all black people use the N word, you need a reality check!) The N word is also influenced by the media a lot, so quite a few people say it to sound "chill" around their peers.

3. Saying the N word will never get rid of it. In my opinion, it’ll make the situation worse since so many people are comfortable using it.

4. If you want to get rid of this word, lead by example. If we encourage people not to use it and explain how lame and unnecessary this word really is, then people will hopefully follow.
Reply:The root of the problem is that some blacks openly call each other N____, and for some reason it is acceptable. However, if someone of another race, particularly if the person is white, uses the same word, in the same context, they are branded a racist.

Giving one race the power to use certain words, and yet deny those of another race the same privledge, is its own form of racism.

If people really want the N-word to die out, then everyone must stop using it. Sadly, I don't see that happening in my lifetime.
Reply:You know I had this discussion with someone a few days ago. I find it very ironic that years ago when the word really meant something no one wanted to fight against it. It wasn't until the word lost its true meaning and became mainstream and common to the point that every color, creed, gender, etc. uses it that it became a real problem. On the other hand I don't understand why people get all riled up about it, My parents always taught me its not what someone calls you it's what you answer too. In America we let simple word hurt us. all they are or words.
Reply:It is a horribly ignorant word and it should be banned.
Reply:It is terrible but as long as we have freedom of speech people will always have an argument of why they can say what they want..in addition to the fact that people for the most part are cold and insensitive to anything that does not affect them and or their beliefs/culture directly!!!
