Why do people want me to mix with people my age when they don't know they what they are into?

My family wants me to mix with people my own age. So does everybody else. I get on better with older people than younger people. Have a few acquaintances that is all. People my age are into drinking and drugs and sleep around generally. Why are they too naive to know this and know I will get into trouble if I mix with them. And know that to mix with them and have them accept me I have to do what they do generally. I have tried but they do not like me cause I am not like them. Most end up drunk and sleep around. Why is my family and other older people too naive to know this. I have some great older friends and get on well with older people. as long as I am mixing with people, who cares right?

I had the same problem as you... I couldn't spend more than an hour with people my age cause they were always laughing about really dumb things and being too loud and stuff like that. So I found a friend who was really older than me but I felt best when I was with her, being "normal". My parents weren't happy me spending my time with an older person but I told them and explained them about people of my age and somehow they understood, even though they still have that "unhappy look" when I tell them I am going out with that girl, especially my dad.


I think you should talk to your parents and try to explain to them... I am sure they would be happier if their daughter hangs out with older people who stay out of trouble, than with younger ones who drink and do drugs.


Personally, I think you should continue hanging out with older people, if that is what makes you feel better and above what keeps you away of all those bad things. Maybe someday you will find people your age who don't drink and don't do drugs and who stay out of throuble and you'll be happy around them.

Reply:You did not mention your age. That is important. A 19 y/o girl can hang with a 26 y/o guy, but a 15 y/o girl can't hang with a 22 y/o guy
Reply:Just like you explained to indivuals you hardly know.Surely, you can explain it to individuals you do know.If they don't want to listen just pout.Eventually they will ask you.What's wrong.Suggest to your family once a month have family dicussions.Use a tape recorder for members that missed it.Date the tapes and start a collection.Replay them if needed.
Reply:i agree i have that kind of thing too. it's hard but it all ends up ok. and u shouldn't have to care about age. i mean well u do kind of ofcourse but u know what i mean.
