What Makes People UNpopular at School?

There are three groups of people in high school:





1) "Popular" - People with tons of friends, boy/girlfriends, hard-partying


2) "Normal" - You (probably) and me. You've got your share of good friends and good times, but you don't have a swarm of people trying to be you or be with you. Even shy people (who aren't in the third category) fall here.


3) "UNpopular" - These are the socially isolated. Even if they try to make friends, they are usually unsuccessful. People find them annoying, gross, or offensive.





I want to know what puts people in the THIRD category. I'm not asking what prevents people from being in the first category. Why are some students socially isolated by EVERYONE (even nice people from the 2nd cataegory)?

What Makes People UNpopular at School?
It's because people like that are creepy and probably annoy and bother everyone. I am in the "Normal" and I know a couple people but not friends with Unpopular people. This is not because they are not popular, it's because they bug the crap out of me or scare me.

Reply:Highschool I believe is the most painful part of growing up. Some girls get there boobs before others. There are the beautiful perfect girls with the perfect hair and the perfect body and those jocky guys. Anyways in highschool it all depends on how you look in highschool. If you are fat then you are unpopular and you dont get boyfriends. Then there are people who are into things card games like magic and the popluar peopel view that as uncool. The normal people kind of want to be popular soo if the popular dont like the unpopular people then they want have anything to do with them because they are uncool because they dress a different way or how heavy they are or how they are skinny but they dont know how to dress. Some people choose to be unpopluar because they hate highschool they hate everyone and everything. Highschool is evil and a teenaged girl can be so cruel with the words they say to you and the boys never asking out out or making fun of you because of your weight can be damaging to the soul
Reply:people who are completely and hideously ugly.........that could be a factor. people who are assholes....um..sometimes people who arent afraid to be themselves. cause everyone wants to follow the popular kids that when people who arent afraid to be themselves are around and arent following anyone no one follows them.
Reply:To be popular good looks , good social skills , and athletically skilled almost guarantee this.


Anyone lacking these drops into 2 and 3 which is the majority.


People in #2 category don`t want to get involved with people in #3 category in fear of being demoted in status and becoming a #3 category themselves.

Reply:im unpopular--mainly cause i am live way far out in the boonies...and secondly i am very old-fashioned....and i wont comform to society....
Reply:the clothes they wear and what they look like are the main factors at my school but i'm in middle school... but the "popular" kids at my school been friends forever because their moms made them do stuff together..
Reply:Rudeness, unkindness, social disorders.
Reply:It starts when the popular group places them in the third category, and then nobody else wants 2 stand up for those people or else they'll fall into the third category so they refuse to be friends with them. It's sad.
Reply:The popular group is usually more outgoing people who do sports and cheerleading and drill team and stuff like that...it kinda just ends up like that..from the time you are in 6th or 7th grade....sometimes it's even the rich kids..but depends...some students are isolated because they aren't outgoing and they think they aren't as good..which isn't true that's never true.....
