Why are some people cruel to overweight people, but nice to thin people?

Overweight people are people too. Some people look at them and say "Eww" And the people that do that are the most low life people you'll ever meet. If it's someone that has anorexia, everyone wants to help. Binge eating is an eating disorder too. Why don't some people understand that?

Because people are shallow and stuck up (want to know what their "perfect little world" looks like). I feel sorry for them, ignorant Assholes! (hey! I didn`t think they`d let you write Asshole here!)

Reply:because "overweight" people somtimes do funny things that only fat people can do. i cal this "acting fat". but other than that i see no reason why to tease them. i saw on oprah that if you are very over weight or anorexic you have social/life problems and to solve them you either eat alot or don't eat. its a 2 way street
Reply:There is alot of flaming that these people are ignorant and cruel, but irrationally that means an overwhelming majority of men are ignorant and cruel. Disinterest and even abhorance of fat is an innate trait. Just as you were born with a bias towards a specific trait. Some of these may be minor such as hair color and race, but some are strong to the point of repulsiveness such as sex preference and beastiality. This disinterest of fat is part of that set of bias you acquired. For some it is a minor preference, but for most I believe it is a major preference.
Reply:Well, let me tell you, I work in healthcare, and when I see a 300-400 lbs. plus person with chips/junk food on their night stand it pisses me off. Especially when they're public aide, and I'm paying for their fat azzes to be lying around not having to work just because they are fat. No over-active thyroids glands....just over-active forks. Give me a break!!!
Reply:Its a double standard because we live in a society where being thin is considered to be beautiful. To be overweight is considered to be ugly. So, beauty is "good" and ugly is "bad". That's why.
Reply:I find people equally cruel to the extremes. If a person is grossly obese, they will never get rest. A lot of times it may be thyroid problems or something else beyond their control. But I know of many anorexic and bulimic people who are the brunt of terrible jokes. All of us are people with feelings, and my hope is that you are not posting this question and laugh at "blond jokes."
Reply:Just a psychological problem, but supported by logic. Overweight people appear to eat a lot, occupy more space in the bus, train where it has to be shared, imbalance the boat sitting on a side, and if they step over somebody (ouch !), and more importantly, because of overweight, they carry a heavy burden all the time, and over a period of time, the face starts showing the strain (a negetive aspect, which naturally begets a reciprocal negetive response!). Many functional dis-advantages in day to day life ! But it not justified to be cruel to them . Some just can't help it. They need all the sympathy and support !

Reply:People that have not been in those positions do not know how it feels to walk in public and be commented on. There is no psychologist that could sit here and tell you how it feels. People are ignorant and inexperienced. And yes bigger people are people to. And i have noticed that most of the people in this world do have problems with bigger people. And guess what you are gonna have to get over it because bigger people are beautiful to. And even though you don't think .so there will always be bigger people
Reply:Babies positively respond to attractive, skinny people as well. Supposedly it has to do with their faces and bodies being more symmetrical. I wonder if this is something that we are predisposed with?
