Black people are overwhelmingly christian. Why do black people usually vote for a democrat then?

The democratic party supports homosexuality and are proponents for the aclu and other organizations that attack christian beliefs.

The majority of black people believe that homosexuality is a sin, but support a politicial party that contradicts their morals.

Sure, there are many traditional christian democrats who don't support homosexuals.

Yes there are homosexual republicans.

If you look at history you will see that democrats overwhelmingly oppose many christian beliefs.

People say that democrats are for the average or poor people and republicans are for the rich.

The fact is the middle working class is left out by both parties for the most part. Poor people qualify for many government programs, but middle class people are left out of those programs and have to work their *** off and not get ahead and live pay check to pay check

Black people are overwhelmingly christian. Why do black people usually vote for a democrat then?
Because they are intelligent Christians...
Reply:There are approx 35 million African Americans. We are not monolithic. Although we tend come from Christian backgrounds...there's a lot of difference among people's personal practices. For some their political choices are very much driven by their religious views, for others, not at all. African Americans have been much more focused on issues like economics, healthcare, jobs...those tend to be priorities set above whether or not to support homophobia on a national scale.
Reply:Well, when I was growing up and a member of the Young Democrats, it meant fighting for the rights of the underpriviledged like blacks, etc. NOT homosexuals. Today's democratic party has now become socialist and today's republican party has now become democratic. I am still a registered democrat but now vote republican usually. I did vote for Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. My husband votes the person not the party usually, but he is voting democratic regardless of the nominee because he is tired of a republican president.
Reply:unlike you, i can't speak for black people or any other ethnic group.

i don't make generalizations about a group of people nor do i stereotype them.

that's ignorance and pettiness to the nth degree and that's too beneath me.

and if you think it's only the middle class working their behinds off, then you are sadly mistaken.

nobody works harder than the working poor, you hear?
Reply:I'm white, straight, married, Catholic, and a Democrat. I don't support gay marriage, to me marriage is a Holy Sacrament, but I believe in civil unions. I don't claim to understand homosexuality. I've had openly gay and lesbian friends, very good friends. Homophobia is a cancer to society. I don't agree with abortion although I agree with Roe v. Wade because this is the USA and woman should have the right to make that decision. There are too many gray areas to just outlaw abortions outright. Actually, if you look at history, you will see that the Democrats overwhelmingly support many Christian beliefs. Maybe just not the ones the so-called religious right advocate.
Reply:Because, while most blacks are Christians, they realize that they do not have the right to tell people how to live their lives.
Reply:Racist Much? Wow.. Thanks for the 2 points!
Reply:What is this fixation on Black Americans? Both the Republicans and the Democrats oppose Christian beliefs. Were it not true, we wouldn't have the corruption we have in government.
Reply:Christians also believe that you should take care of the poor, love thy neighbor, and treat others as yourself.....are they honestly supposed to vote republican?
Reply:Why does religion always have to come up in this election? We should be looking at the issues and deciding who the is the best person for the country.
Reply:Because their politics are more important than their faith.
Reply:Most black people are Baptist. First you should say Africa Americans, so being one myself I was taught that one should not be judgmental to others only God him self can judge on someones sins. What someone does in his or her home does not put sins in mine. And if you really are into the church you should know that one sins is not greater then the other all are sins in Gods eyes.

And most people live pay check to pay check. Not all people quantify for the programs the government give out. I make less then middle class but more then the average poor so I pay for food, rent, daycare, and college with two jobs.
Reply:Maybe they actually believe in the TEACHINGS of Jesus...
Reply:Because most are not rich. Like the majority of the population. I am a middle class Christian, and do not like some Liberal stances but I also know that most haven't and never will affect my life. I hate the ACLU because they defend the minority and piss on the majority of us. However, the blatant push to make the rich richer and let corporations evolve into monopolies in the name of capitalism is killing the working class. And those are conservative ideas and do affect my life. So, I can see the black people's point, regardless if they are on welfare or not. And i really don't think most welfare recipients even bother to vote.
Reply:Christianity is a movement of tolerance and love for all. Those who condemn others are Christian in name only. Jesus showed the way but didn't push/force/shove/drag others onto it. His example was to live truth and love for all mankind, especially the "sinner."
Reply:ok let me explain something to you,YES there is alot of black christians AND yeah republicans are all into this christian blah blah nonsense BUT Republicans are too damn...hmmm how can i explain this....its like god does this, god does that, god is the greatest and u know what,i'm tired of hearing all that **** and yeah i'm christian. If your christian, why not support gays? Cuz "god" said it was wrong...give me a f***ing break, god didnt write the bible, man did and yeah...jesus aint real.
Reply:People vote for the candidate that promises them the greatest impact in their life.

I can simply say that I am a Christian, but I am not voting for Huckabee. I voted fro Mitt and he won in my state. I believe that I'll be left with McCain (pun intended).

I voted this way because I want the US safe, lower taxes, health-care left to the states, not the US government. Did we not learn anything from the Katrina FEMA show?

I would prefer to vote for Huck, but I don't want to take the chance of Hillary or Obama getting in.
Reply:I don't think that voting for a Democrat is inconsistent with being a Christian. The country was founded on principles of separation of Church and State. Those are not just words.

I do think that many Republicans, in the past, have been caught with their ethical pants down, so to speak (Mark Foley, Larry Craig) as have many Democrats (Bill Clinton, Obama's plagiarism of speeches and cocaine use, etc).

Blacks have traditionally voted Democrat, regardless of what the Democrat stands for. They are a voting bloc, and in this case, they are voting for their race. I don't think that is necessarily sensible but everyone is entitled to their vote and opinion.
Reply:White conservative christians sin just as much as the gays and abortionists they criticize.

There was a white conservative preacher in Montgomery AL this past summer who was found in his house tied up in black leather gear, with gag balls in his mouth and another man's semen all over him. He accidentally suffocated with a plastic bag over his head. The deacons found him on a sunday morning while they were waiting for him to come to church. True story.

Mark Foley? Larry Craig? Republicans are the biggest liars of them all.
Reply:alot of reasons

the Repubs tended to be against the civil rights movement of the 1960s

the Nixon Southern Strategy that pitted white republicans against blacks

ever since republicans have become the party that apologizes for racism in its own ranks (david duke, etc) and does little to change that perception

there are plenty of economic reasons too, real and percived that push them into the Dem party
Reply:You really need to stop with all the stereotypes and color issues.
Reply:now we have white peoples questioning the black vote . all i have to say on this issues is (black power) don't underestimate it as Hillary Clinton have and McCain will in this presidential election . obama for president 2008
Reply:B/c it seems these 2 candidates speak about HEALTHCARE for all (a Christian thing, to care for the sick). B/c they care about the POOR, the mentally ill, the weaker members of our society! Do you remember that if you feed and cloth one of the poor people, you feed and cloth Jesus himself? I wonder whether YOU practice that.

Sexuality is just one of 100,000,000 Christian issues. Why don't you mention caring for the poor, for the sick, for the innocent..
Reply:Because their leaders tell them too (and their leaders make all kinds of promises to their clergy).
Reply:Why does religion have to ever enter into Politics? Politics are SECULAR. PEACE!
Reply:Contrary to popular opinion black ppl are not mindless little sheep lacking the ability to think on our own.

True the Republican party origianally was designed for the underdog and the Democrat party (being the oldest party) was not. During the days were blacks were being given the right to vote Republicans were for it and the Democrates were against it, but after all that came to pass the Republican party became less and less about the Republic and more and more about the haves and the have mores.

No one likes to be told how to live their lives by strangers. Most real Christians that actually follow the teachings of Christ rather than try to play His right hand executioner, know that there are many sins. All of which will lead u to hell, but the Republican party and their followers simply want to focus on two...abortion and homosexuality. Ignoring the fact that lying, stealing, cheating, backbiting and killing anyone (including those u demonlize for ur own propaganda) will put u in hell right next the gay person u hate so dearly.
Reply:They are trained that way.

My boyfriend is black, and very conservative. He tells me his mom will always vote dem, even though it will hurt her, because that is the way she was taught. His sisters, who also have nice careers, vote the same way.

BTW.... He is a dental tech and his mother is an RN, nothing about welfare in this family, not all blacks are for handouts. They bettered themselves on thier own, not with help from any dem program.
Reply:The Democrats have been successful in convincing Blacks that they support them. Although, they do nothing for Blacks other than keep some of them dependent on social programs. Black social leaders preach that the Black community needs to be independent of social programs and needs to sustain itself, but then they turn around and throw support to the Democrats. It doesn't make sense.
Reply:Because welfare and food stamps are democratic programs.
Reply:Because they listen to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton instead of Alan Keyes.
Reply:So the welfare will flow more easily.
