Why do people care wat other people think?
Its what happens naturally while teenagers go through the growing up phase.
Its hard to understand now, when we are grown up, why would they bend over backwards to please a peer group that sometimes not just leads them down a path of disaster (teens end up trying everything to fit in - smoking, drinking, clubbing, drugs, sleeping around just to appear cool and hip) but the peer group will also sometimes be mean, deride and make fun of one of their own.
Why do girls still refer to them as their compass for behaviour, culture and opinions? Who knows. From what you write in your post, looks like you have been through it too. So was I. Dont you sometimes feel like if you knew then what you know now, you'd shake your teen self by the shoulders and tell her to grow up!
But hey, its just the way they branch out from the family unit, from being mom and dad's little girl, and getting a sense of identity, a sense of self, on their own.
How they achieve this, what path they take, which friends they make, what those friends encourage them to do is all a luck of the draw, a lot of it has to do with parenting though.
When adults do it though, it makes absolutely no sense. They are adults for God's sake... they should have a mind of their own by now! lol
