People in Houston are still today blaming people that are from New Orleans that the crime rate has risen despite the fact that Houston has had a higher crime rate before the Katrina happened. This is one of those, let's blame someone 4 this and keep it that way. But, due to people and some so-called rappers that like to say "Don't mess with Texas" and say things like north Houston is the hardest. And now their whining about crime rates going up, i would say let the people from New Orleans raise the rate up so the people in Texas can see what state is really the hardest and they can tast how it feels like to be the hardest.
Why people from Houston today are still blaming the people from New Orleans for Houstons crime rate?
You are absolutely correct. Houston's crime rate was increasing before Katrina and the rate did not increase more after the storm.
Also, New Orleans does not now and did not have (before Katrina) a partucularly high crime rate. NOLA is not even in the "top 25" since the storm and was at about # 40 before Katrina: http://money.cnn.com/2006/10/30/real_est...
Reply:Actually immediately following Katrina there was a surge of crime between the younger New Orleans residents and Houston residents. Most of the incidents that made the news were those of high school children. Also, the spike in thefts, and car jackings, were blamed on New Orleans residents, although I doubt that anyone would car jack someone in an unfamiliar city, even if only a simple minded criminal.
There were a few cities that blamed this on the survivors of Katrina, but I think some of it's untrue. My sister's home in Dallas was broken into and the cops told her it was probably the residents of New Orleans, he didn't know she was also from New Orleans.
Reply:Probably because all the scum balls have migrated there.
Reply:umm..cause they are from Texas...need I say more?
ok...well you can always blame it on President Bush.
Reply:a lot of people moved to Texas, including some drug dealers.
Reply:After Katrina people were sent to Texas with no resources.
Reply:opinions dont cause crime, people do so quit yer bitchin and do something about making every where a better place to live you hypercrit
Reply:It is my understanding that the crime rate DID go up in Houston after all of the Katrina evacuees arrived there. Could just be a coincidence. But if the people from New Orleans that are still in Houston don't like being blamed for the high crime rate that they think has nothing to do with them, maybe they should go and live somewhere else. When they all leave and the crime rate doesn't go down everyone will then know that the good people of NOLA (one of my favorite cities in the world, ever!) were not to blame and the people in Houston will have to shut up about it!
Reply:Barry you are consistent, I'll give you that, New Orleans doesn't have a high crime rate?????I guess that would be news to the 200+ people murdered in the city last year.
Reply:lets shed a little light on the situation. New orleans has a higher crime rate that houston to start. these refugess were shipped out but not shipped back in most had t find their own way back home and for most of them that wasn't even possiable becuase they lived off the government and dont want to do anything for them selves. those are the ones that stayed after the storm. Most of those people are uneducated and criminals, louisiana doesn't want these people to come back they rather them stay just where they are. An most drug dealers from new orleans ran drugs to and from houston so those people fell right into the bad part of the population. If their is anyone to blame about the crime it is the police that should be able to catch and prosicute more criminals and get them off the streets and then it would be a safer city.
