Why people from Houston today are still blaming the people from New Orleans for Houstons crime rate?

People in Houston are still today blaming people that are from New Orleans that the crime rate has risen despite the fact that Houston has had a higher crime rate before the Katrina happened. This is one of those, let's blame someone 4 this and keep it that way. But, due to people and some so-called rappers that like to say "Don't mess with Texas" and say things like north Houston is the hardest. And now their whining about crime rates going up, i would say let the people from New Orleans raise the rate up so the people in Texas can see what state is really the hardest and they can tast how it feels like to be the hardest.

You are absolutely correct. Houston's crime rate was increasing before Katrina and the rate did not increase more after the storm.
Reply:It's probably true that crime rates were going up..... I also heard the New Orleans victims were using the money the goverment gave them to go and buy huge flat screen TV's and such, and then they were whining that they had no clothes or food. And then I heard they were breaking into stores and stealing all the stuff. I'm not saying they are responsible for all the crime, but I believe they could be responsible for the rising crime rate.

A word to the wise.... rappers don't know **** and their songs are mostly bogus. Most of the big rappers have never even been to Texas. But I do live by one statement..... DONT MESS WITH TEXAS!!!!
Reply:Its true crime has gone up since our lazy neighbors showed up here in Texas. I for one was robbed blind by one of New Orleans finest. Too bad we couldn't pick and choose who we wanted here
Reply:First, it wasn't just Houstonians that blamed the rising crime rates on Katrina evacuees. The Washington Post, New York Times, and CNN all covered that story as well. Secondly, there was a true documented increase in crime, especially murder, following hurricane Katrina. There are countless news articles and statistics provided by the city that cite that fact. Lastly, although there's no way to prove that the rise in crime was directly linked to 150,000 Katrina survivors coming to Houston; it's just too much of a coincidence for many people to believe.
