Do people really understand the reasons for World War II?

Most people hang on the idea that Hitler was just a crazy megalomaniac, but what people don't understand is the climate in antebellum Europe.





Most people don't even know why Hitler was elected. He was elected because of the post WWI financial problems Germany was facing. People couldn't get work and faced severe inflation. In addition, most of the land in Germany, Poland, and Czechoslovakia was owned by Jews. Jews had been wealthy since a long time ago because the Catholic Church forbade banking and loaning practices, which left Jews to make money off of banking. People began wondering why people of Jewish ethnicity were running their country instead of someone of German ethnicity.





Poland organized with the ONR and came up with the slogan "Poland for Poles".





So, nationalists weren't crazy, some of their viewpoints weren't totally inaccurate.

I agree that Hitler alone didn't cause the war. However, Hitler got "elected" through raw intimidation and voting fraud. Even with electoral tactics like that, he only received 40-some-odd percent of the vote. He came to absolute power, not through election, but through the Enabling Act which he was only able to railroad through the Reichstag after the Reichstag fire, which was blamed on the Communist Party but was almost certainly the work of Nazis.





In any case, it also seems clear that the Nazi Party was genuinely popular. However, the highest percentage of votes the Nazis received in a fair election was roughly 35% or so.





I don't think anyone can say, with any degree of certainty, that Hitler caused the war. However, I think it's fair to say that Hitler played a large role in the process.
Reply:ok, this isn't a question so much as an excuse for you to rant on the historically ignorant and basically post (almost word for word) some of the Wikipedia entry on WWII. And not only that, but you almost sound like you're making excuses for Hitler. And lastly, you're totally ignoring what brought the U.S. into the war and the entire Pacific Theatre. Do you feel smart now?
