Do people really change?

Lately my friend has been telling me about all of these people who have 'changed' due to other people or just in general. I, myself don't believe people change. Yes, people may act different and not be who they were before, but I don't think it's because they have changed. I think it's all adapating. I think people adapt the the situations that they are taking part in with the people that they are around.

Do people really change?
Yes they can nothing is impossible, where there is a will there is the way
Reply:Thank you Report It

Reply:Isn't adaption change. We have to change in order to adapt to our environment. Dinosaurs were not able to adapt (change) to their surrounding so they died. Therefore, we do change.

You might be getting confused with "who" we are and "what" we are. Who we are is from a totality of genes, environment, and life experiences. And how we learn from these experiences, both good and bad, and use what we learned when they happen again. DNA is what we are, not who we are. What we are never changes. Who we are never stops changing. We are only defined and programmed on a cellular basis.
Reply:everyone changes, the person you were at 6 is not the person you are at 16 and the person you are at 16 is not the person you are at 26.

People, environment, education, upbringing, life experience, sadness, trauma, illness, wellness, personal goals , ambitions, dreams all affect us and change the way we act and interact as individuals.

Experience changes who we are! We develop our own value system and quite often will outgrow things as we develop as people.

A person can become a different person in a set environment and there is an element of adaption , like in a classroom the person becomes a student, however when they leave the class room they are changed as they now know more than the person they were when they went in.

We are constantly changing, the Buddhists embrace this in their philosophy.

People who adapt or put on a change to impress or seek approval usually get outed fairly quickly so there is that element.
Reply:This is a very good question. I think you will get more answers if you post it in the : Women and Genders Studies section. Feminists and male philosophers will be quick to share their opinion.

However....

I believe that all people have the capacity to change the way they live their life. Everyone can be good or evil. By changing your actions, you change the way other people percieve you, and you begin living in a different reality. You will not look at yourself the same, either.

However, part of you will always remain the same; that part is related to your genes, which include your ability to cope and tolerate stress. This part you can't change.

Every individual is different. Each individual finds a different way to adapt to their genes and live a life that satisfies them by making use of what they are given by nature or (if you believe) a superior being. That's what makes life so interesting!

The methods that you need to employ to create change in your life maybe different from other people who have different limits and capacities encoded in their genes. One has to find the method that works best for the individual based on experience and self-awareness. Spirituality helps in the quest of defining who you are as an individual.
