its natural to stare. but some people stare too long. some people stare because someone is dressed out of the norm, or someone has dreads or an afro, or someone has a pretty face, or someone is doing what they like to do. staring is part of human nature. sometimes you get tired of people staring, so you say stop staring stupid. and they might say i wasn't. or come off with something smart. but you know they are staring. people stare because they are interested or do not understand a person's look. its one or the other. it isn't people staring because someone is ugly. that is stupid, because beauty isn't one way. so when people stare you say hi, give them a mean look, scrunch your eyes, and you just do you. people stare because they aren't used to people who are different or pretty or what have you not. people stare at others because they have no lives. others out of jealousy. right?
Why do you think people stare at others? Even when people know they are staring, they still stare?
You're right: people stare for ALL sorts of reasons, whether it be to look at beautiful person, to stare down an ugly one, because they are jealous, because they are bored, because they wish they could be like someone...it really varies. And you're right to say it's natural to stare: I think it's human nature to watch others and analyze them. That being said, it's annoying when people stare TOO much and make you feel akward. I know this probably sounds arrogant and I don't mean it to be, but one of the things I try to do in life is to take the good and ignore the bad, so when someone stares at me I just assume it's because I'm pretty and ignore it. If I sit there thinking, oh do i look bad? am i ugly? etc. etc. it will just get me down. So I do what makes me happy :)
Reply:It could also be a sign of a mental or developmental disorder, such as autism and Asperger's.
I'm an Aspie and I get accused of staring. When I stare it's not at any particular thing...my eyes just focus on an object without my willing it and my mind wanders off. I don't mean to do it and I'm not doing it to be rude. It's one of the many fun things about having Asperger's syndrome.
I agree that having people stare at you gets annoying and yes it is rude but some people, like me, can't help it and we don't always realize that we're doing it.
Reply:I think that we stare because we either find faults in others or because we become jealous of what someone else has and stare at them because we have faults in ourselves.
Reply:Evolutionary debate aside, people are primates and therefore don't usually stare unless they want to make a connection to you.
However, they also possess a trait called Hubris. This means they assume people are always staring at them instead of looking in their direction, or perhaps day dreaming and holding their head in a particular direction or even trying to read a sign or clock behind the head of the vain person.
I suspect this is more what is going on then people staring at you.
Reply:either out of jealousy or because they have no lives?
No, i have to disagree
Some people dont even know they are staring at someone. Some people may be trying to hit on you. Some people may just be looking around the room and it just happens that they seem to look at you when you look at them. Some people may stare because they like what they see ( like nice shoes, shirt etc. ...)
Yeah, some people may stare out of boredom and jealousy, but those arent the only reasons why.
And thats pretty arrogant if you believe that.
